This is a wonderful setting located around Lake Worthersee, where there is a beach in Klagenfurt. Here visitors can sunbathe on the sand and grassy areas, swim or play volleyball and soccer. There are a series of hiking trails in the region especially around the Lake Worthersee area. The lake also offers various watersports, fishing and swimming and there are cycle paths along here too. Many outdoor swimming pools are open to the public nearby as well as water parks. There are lots of golf courses in the area including the 18-hole Kaiserburg, which is the highest golf course in Carinthia. In the winter months visitors to the area can head to the Kelinkircheim and Turrach Resorts and participate in downhill and cross country skiing. A large variety of restaurants, cafes and bars can be found in the area including by the lake, serving good local cuisine. Klagnefurt has many good places to visit including a theme park and various historic buildings. There are several museums located in the area including the Regional Museum of Carinthia, Carinthian Museum of Modern Art and Klagnefurt Mining Museum. Various significant religious buildings are located here too such as the Cathedral of Gurk. Castle Hochosterwitz is one of the most impressive castles in the country. Cruises along the lake are available with guides providing information about the historic buildings all around. The Pyramidenkogel Observation Tower offers great views of Carinthia and the lakes. Some of the fascinating natural features in the area include the Obir Dripstone Caves and Garnitzenklamm Gorge near Hermagor.

Travel to Wörthersee, Austria
Klagenfurt Airport (KLU) in Carinthia is just 18 kilometres from Worthersee and has a limited number of flights to destinations in Europe. These include flights to Frankfurt and London with Ryanair, Berlin, Cologne/Bonn, Hamburg and Hanover with Air Berlin, Munich with Lufthansa and Vienna with Austrian Airlines. There are several car rental services based at the airport. Alternatively visitors can get a flight to Ljubljana JoÅ¾e Pu?nik Airport (LJU) in Slovenia, which is about a one hour and 10 minutes drive away and has flights to and from Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt, London, Munich, Paris and Zurich with Adria Airways as well as numerous other destinations. Again there are car rental firms on site at the airport.
