Sunset Strip self-catering holiday accommodation is found in a holiday community on Phillip Island, which sits in Westernport Bay, Victoria. The island is a couple of hours southeast of the city of Melbourne.
At Sunset Strip holiday rentals you’ll be in a good location to enjoy everything that Phillip Island has to offer. Here you’ll be towards the south of the island, with beaches generally known for their brisk surf. The beach at Woolamai is just a short drive away, and features small to medium swells. If you’d like to take lessons then there are a handful of surf schools found locally. Cape Woolamai is also a fantastic spot for a walk, with a number of looping walking routes to follow. The area is known for its migratory birds. For calmer waters you could make for the northern side of Phillip Island, which is home to the sheltered beaches that face the mainland. Beaches at Erewhon Point and Cowes are considered especially good for children, as the water can get very shallow during low tide. Another activity to enjoy close to self-catering accommodation in Sunset Strip is scuba diving – Phillip Island is considered one of the best places in the country to enjoy this activity. There are also a number of companies on the island offering guided kayak tours, especially in the calmer waters to the north, around the Rhyll foreshore. A great family day out can also be had at the Maru Koala and Animal Park where children are free to pet and feed wallabies, kangaroos and koalas, and see a variety of other species in enclosure.
The city of Melbourne is a comfortable drive from Philip Island. The essential starting point for visitors is the City Centre, which is known for its cafes, shopping and attractive Victorian buildings. The Queen Victoria market here is large and sprawling, featuring everything from fresh produce to souvenirs. Beachgoers generally head for St Kilda, known for its nightlife and waterfront shops.
The climate around Sunset Strip is generally milder and a little less changeable than Melbourne. This is down to its proximity to the coast, where ocean breezes temper summer highs, which tend to get up to the mid-20s in January and February, when there’s plenty of sunshine. Winter weather is mild and damp, with daily highs in the low-teens during the months of July and August.
Sunset Strip is around two hours by car to the southeast of Melbourne Airport (MEL). You can reach this destination from the British Isles by flying with the airline Qantas from London Heathrow (LHR).
