The Lighthouse is on the edge of Hat Head National Park with the distinctive octagonal lighthouse, the coach house, stables and lighthouse keepers cottage all built before 1891. Trial Bay Gaol was built for good conduct prisoners and completed in 1886 with a storm in 1903 turning its protective breakwater to rubble. . A hexagonal structure it’s built from local grey granite and housed Germans during World War I. There are a number of trails and walks around the area including one quite difficult walk from the Gaol to the Lighthouse.
