Holidaymakers looking for a place to stay in an area of outstanding natural beauty should try the Blue Mountains in Australia. A good way to tour part of this area is to take the Scenic Railway taking passengers to the base of the Katoomba Falls. The area is brimming with culture too as there are many galleries and museums to be visited. For example tourists can head to Katoomba Fine Art, Valley Heights Locomotive Depot Heritage Museum and Nolan on Lovel Art Gallery, which is also in Katoomba. Another attraction well worth visiting is Blue Mountains Botanical Garden at Mount Tomah. Little further afield is the city of Sydney, which boasts many wonderful attractions including the world famous Opera House.
January and February are generally the hottest months of the year with average high temperatures of 24 degrees centigrade. June and July are the coolest months with an average high of 16 degrees centigrade and average lows of just 6 degrees. The wettest time of the year is March when there can be as much as 100mm of rainfall on average.
Sydney International Airport (SYD) is approximately an hour and a quarter from Blue Mountains. Flights arrive in Sydney from various international airports including Beijing-Capital (PEK), London-Heathrow (LHW), Los Angeles (LAX), New York (JFK), Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Tokyo-Narita (NRT) and Toronto-Pearson (YYZ) amongst others. Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Redspot and Thrifty are car rental firms with desks located at the arrivals level of both terminals in Sydney Airport.
