Holidaymakers looking for a fun vacation in southern Europe should pay a visit to the tiny country of Andorra. Tucked away in the Pyrenees between France and Spain this principality has many exciting things to see and do. Visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, chalets, cottages and apartments.
The winter months offer some fantastic skiing in Andorra at various resorts including Pal, Arinsal and Arcalis. Visitors to the country can also try snowshoeing and Nordic skiing at some of the resorts as well as ice skating. There are many interesting trails for holidaymakers to follow on bicycles or on horseback. The mountainous terrain makes this a good destination for climbing and canyoning as well. For a small country there is a surprising amount for visitors to see including impressive buildings and architecture. Casa de la Vall is a fine building built in 1580, which has served as the nation’s parliament building since 1702. Two fine churches well worth visiting are the ancient Església de Sant Esteve and the Església de Santa Coloma.
Andorra has some attractive streets and squares, which are nice to walk around especially at night. In the capital Barri Antic and Placa del Poble are fine examples, with the latter offering great views of the valley and mountains. Transport enthusiasts will marvel at the 80 vintage cars as well as the 100+ bicycles at the National Automobile Museum.
The warmest time of the year in Andorra is July and August when the average high temperature is 26 degrees centigrade. The coldest month of the year is January when the average minimum temperature of 1 degree centigrade. May is usually the wettest month of the year with an average of 105mm rainfall, compared to just 34mm in January. However, there is plenty of snowfall during the ski season between December and early April.
Toulouse Airport (TLS) is approximately 112 miles from Andorra. Flights arrive here from various French cities as well as from international airports such as Amsterdam (AMS), Brussels (BRU), Lisbon (LIS), London-Gatwick (LGW), London-Heathrow (LHW), Madrid (MAD), Munich (MUC) and Rome-Fiumicino (FCO). From Toulouse visitors can hire a car with rental firms including Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, National/Citer and Sixt located at the airport.
