The small village of Le Val, is as its name might suggest, situated in a small valley closed in by forested hills. The natural beauty of the area quickly makes a daily walk or cycle part of the routine, and it is also possible to go on horse riding treks through the hills. With Brignoles so close, you will inevitably end up spending some time there, but other towns and villages to visit include Saint Maximin le Sainte Baume with its historical links with Mary Magdalene and Entrecasteaux with its castle. This part of Provence boasts many quaint villages and towns, each with a uniquely appealing aspect, and half the fun is simply in taking a drive out for an hour or two and discovering them as you go along! Along the way, remember to stop by a winery and take a tour, if there is one available.
The weather in this part of France can be described as being Mediterranean, which is typified by warm summers and cool winters. During the hottest months of July and August, day time highs of 30 degrees Celsius are often reached, and the day time mean temperatures are 25 degrees. During the winter, day time highs still reach a respectable 13 degrees. Rainfall is inconsequential during the summer, and picks up through the autumn to peak at its maximum of 100mm per month during December and January.
Some people choose to drive to the south of France, and whilst it is recommended that you have the use of a car during your stay, it must be kept in mind that the distance between Calais and your holiday rental cottage in Le Val is just over 1000 km. The other option is to fly, and in this regard, Marseille Airport (MRS) is your best bet. British Airways fly into here from London Gatwick (LGW) on a regular basis, and you could always hire a car from the airport if you so desired.
