The commune of Le Beausset (sometimes referred to in guidebooks simply as 'Beausset') is a town of around 8,000 people in the Var department of south-eastern France. The destination holds interest for both history and nature lovers, having some attractive old buildings and unspoilt surrounding scenery, and is a great location from which to enjoy an authentic French village that has not been spoilt by mass tourism.
The town of Le Beausset is of particular interest to lovers of history and architecture, as it has a number of buildings that date back to medieval times. One of these, the 12th century Romanesque chapel, is a great place to start a day of sightseeing around the town, and that can be quickly followed by the Oratory of St. Louis and the statue of Notre Dame. A full day can easily be spent traversing the old streets and wandering between places of interest.
The entire town of Le Beausset has been declared a 'Station Verte' – meaning it is a classified nature resort for its parks, gardens and surrounding countryside, which are perfect for relaxing walks and more active rambles. Olive groves and vineyards are found in the outlying area in their numbers, and sampling the locally produced olive oil and wines is an absolute must.
Local produce in general is a big part of life around Le Beausset, and some fine examples can be enjoyed in some of the town's restaurants. The regular street market and the several small food shops dotted around the town are further opportunities to pick up some fresh and delicious goods, and will allow you to recreate some of the finest local recipes in the comfort of your Le Beausset holiday rental apartment or villa.
