The small village of Lake Placid is in the Tri-Lakes region of the Adirondack Mountains in New York state. Although it was developed as a mining town it has since become a pleasant vacation destination with many New York City dwellers having vacation homes in Lake Placid. The 8-person Cloudsplitter Gondola takes visitors to the summit of Little Whiteface which has splendid views of the area. Keene Valley is about 20 miles from Lake Placid holiday rentals and has great hiking trails and climbing opportunities. Further afield, the lovely Canadian cities of Montreal and Quebec are about 2Â½ hours drive away.
