Laglio is a small municipality that sits towards the south-western end of beautiful Lake Como in Lombardy. An old town with a strong history, Laglio is a typical example of a Lake Como town, combining great weather, stunning views and a level of serenity quite unlike anywhere else in the world. Laglio accommodation also offers a great base from which to explore the area, with lakeside apartments and luxury villas to choose from.
Unlike some of the other towns which line Lake Como, Laglio has remained largely untouched by touristic development, and retains its authentic Italian feel with cobbled streets and traditional family businesses. Laglio did however hit the headlines when George Clooney purchased Villa Orleandra in the old town, and many visitors like to sneak a peek at the luxury home which appeared in the movie Oceans Twelve.
Many people head to Lake Como to partake in outdoor activities that make the most of this peaceful region, with walking and hiking particularly popular. Water sports opportunities are also plentiful on Lake Como, with swimming, windsurfing, sailing and kite surfing just some of the many options. Another unique opportunity is a sea plane ride over the lake, taking in a birds-eye view of the mountains and towns that characterize the area.
Arguably the best feature of any holiday in Lake Como is being to visit a number of the towns and villages which line the banks of the waters, each which have their own attractions, history and points of interest. Laglio is a great base from which to do this, as a number of other destinations are within short travelling time from the town, such as Carate Urio (4km) and Molltrasio Laglio (5km). Bicycle is a great way of getting around.
There are many more towns and villages to visit nearby. Cernobbio, 8km away, has a good selection of fashionable cafe-bars and restaurants, the majority of which boast an enviable lakeside setting. It also has a ferry port, allowing visitors to cross the water and explore some of the gems of its eastern side of the lake. Laglio is also just 12 kilometres from Como, the Chief Town in the region and the ‘silk capital of Italy’.
It is hard to fault the weather in Lake Como. The warm summers can reach temperatures of up to 30C – ideal for water sports and relaxing outside with a cold drink. Winter months are mild, with clear blue skies and low rainfall, making this time of the year perfect for making the most of the stunning scenery.
Milan Malpensa (MXP) is the airport to head to in order to get to the Lake Como region, and can be reached from several UK destinations such as London Gatwick and Bristol. The distance from the airport to Laglio is 43km.
