Holidaymakers looking for a wonderful getaway in the sun may like to visit the La Santa –Tinajo area on the island of Lanzarote. This is a lovely resort located on the western side of Lanzarote, which is one of the Canary Islands a few miles off the Southern coast of mainland Spain. The beach at La Santa consists of white sand and is very pleasant for holidaymakers to sunbathe on. The water is calm here making it good for swimming although there is a rocky area with more dangerous waters. Various watersports can be tried here including fishing, diving, surfing and windsurfing. Self catering holidaymakers will be able to purchase food and drink from the local supermarket and there is a weekly market held in Tinajo. There are also a handful of shops selling gifts and souvenirs.
Tinajo has many interesting buildings for visitors to admire including the parish church of San Roque and its impressive religious icons. Tourists can learn plenty about the island at the Farm Museum in Tiagua, where there are three windmills on the site. One of the most popular places to visit on the island is the Timanfaya National Park, which is home to dormant volcanoes and can be explored on the back of a camel. Another natural feature worth seeing is Los Hervideros, where the sea is boiling in the lava caves. A trip further north on the island will take holidaymakers to Guinate Tropical Park, where there are lovely gardens and waterfalls.
Lanzarote enjoys a warm climate all year round with the average peaking in August at 25 degrees centigrade. January is the coolest month with an average temperature of 17 degrees centigrade. The summers are very dry with virtually no rain between June and August. December is the wettest month with an average rainfall of 27mm. Between June and August holidaymakers can enjoy an average of 11 hours sunshine per day.
Arrecife Airport (ACE) is approximately 30 minutes drive from Tinajo and has flights to and from other Canary Islands, mainland Spain and numerous European airports such as Amsterdam (AMS), Berlin (TXL), Brussels, Dublin (DUB), London-Gatwick (LGW), Manchester (MAN), Milan-Orio al Serio (BGY), Paris-Orly (ORY), Stockholm Arlanda (ARN), Vienna (VIE) and Zurich (ZRH) amongst others. Several car hire firms are represented at the airport including Autos Reisen, Avis, Betacar, Cabrera Medina, Europcar, Felycar, Goldcar, Hertz and Payless.
