La Asomada is one of the most picturesque and peaceful villages to be found on the island of Lanzarote. Many of the holiday villas are spread across the slopes of an extinct volcano, offering spectacular views of the village and the surrounding area. Lanzarote has a unique landscape and La Asomada is one of the best places to enjoy outdoor activities on this landscape without the hustle and bustle of more tourist centred areas.
Your accommodation in La Asomada will most likely provide you with several activities without having to leave the comfort of the balcony! With such stunning views of the mountains and the surrounding countryside, the balcony of your La Asomada villa is the perfect place for taking photographs or indulging in some painting. Outside of the villa, there are many outdoor activities on your doorstep such as walking, hiking and cycling. A short walk from the village, visitors can enjoy activities such as horse-riding, golf, tennis, swimming, fishing, sailing and jet skiing.
Approximately 18 kilometres to the north-east of La Asomada is the town of Teguise. This town was the old capital of the island of Lanzarote and retains its traditional Canarian charm. In fact, Teguise is credited with being the oldest Spanish settlement of all of the Canary Islands.
A must see in Teguise is the Palacio de Marques, the oldest building on Lanzarote that dates back to 1455. Although it is now a Tapas bar, visitors can soak up the old Canarian architecture whilst sitting down to some delicious food and wine. In keeping with the Palacio de Marques, visitors can also see a later period restored building, the Palacio Spinola. The architecture is breathtaking and it is considered to be one of the most important monuments in Teguise today.
Not to be missed on a visit to Teguise is the Castillo Santa Barbara, the oldest castle on Lanzarote. It sits above the town on the now extinct Mount Guanapay, which offers stunning views of the town and the surrounding area. The castle is also home to the Museum of Emigration.
La Asomada enjoys hot summers and very mild winters every year. This is due to the positioning of Lanzarote with the Sahara Desert and Morocco providing a nearby influence. Visitors can enjoy average temperatures of 24°C in April, 29°C in August and 23°C in November. These wonderful temperatures mean that renting a holiday villa in La Asomada is the perfect choice to enjoy outdoor activities and sunbathing all year round.
As there is only one airport on the island, all flights are directed to Lanzarote Airport (ACE), which is conveniently located only 12 minutes away from La Asomada. Many airlines including easyJet, Jet2com, BMI, Thomson Cook Airways and Ryanair offer flights to the island. Visitors can depart from several UK airports such as East Midlands (EMA), Glasgow (GLA), Manchester (MAN), Liverpool (LPL) and Belfast (BFS).
