Koh Samui (Ko Samui) is an indescribably beautiful island off the mainland of Thailand. Koh Samui holidays can be whatever you wish them to be, a backpacker experience, a luxury holiday, a relaxed beach break or an adrenaline fuelled activity holiday. However, what ever style of holiday you are looking for, a Koh Samui villa or beach hut will let you enjoy the upbeat yet relaxed atmosphere of this stunning island.
Koh Samui has a remarkable selection of beaches upon which to take a beach hut or any style of Koh Samui beach accommodation. The majority are covered in powder soft, white sand, but the atmosphere and facilities of each varies across the island. Cheweng Beach is the largest, best known and most developed beach here, and it is lined by an excellent shopping street which lines the back. Some of the best entertainment and shopping are found here. The Big Budda Beach, which gets its name from the huge statue at its southern tip, is a delightful, quiet beach near the airport. It is a great place to get a few hours sunbathing in before catching a flight, away from the bustle of the more tourist focused resorts.
The many little towns and villages are simply bursting with places of interest to visit, magnificent little shops and exquisite restaurants in which to sample some of the mouth-watering local cuisine. If you are interested in trying some local recipes while staying in self catering Ko Samui accommodation, there are plenty of cooking classes available on the island.
Apart from the beaches and glorious climate, the teeming seas which surround Koh Samui are some of the biggest attractions to the island. Scuba diving is probably the most celebrated activity you can enjoy from a Koh Samui villa, with many qualified diving schools and some internationally renowned dive sites including Sail Rock, the Nangyaun Pinnacle and Shark Island. There are many options to go deep sea fishing too, with a large number of companies offering fishing trips on traditional boats.
There is even a stunningly landscaped championship golf course on Koh Samui, meaning that you can get your golfing fix from a beach hut in Ko Samui too! Gone are the days when the only way to get any pampering done on a Koh Samui holiday was a massage on the beach, but there are now a huge number of world class spa facilities which have sprung up around the island. Of special interest are the spas of Anodas, Cabana and the Escape Spa.
The peak season, (from December until February) Koh Samui basks in temperatures of around 30°C every day. At the height of summer, from March until June, temperatures are remarkably hot, (around 40°C), and the pace of life slows noticeably. However, from July onwards, temperatures become bearable again. The brief wet season lasts from October until early December.
Ko Samui has its own airport (USM), which has vastly reduced the time it takes to reach a holiday rental in Ko Samui, but flights do not arrive directly from the UK. However, as connecting flights from Bangkok (BKK) only take 80minutes, and there are a huge range of cheap flights from the UK to Bangkok, there is an easy way to reach the island!
