Kastelli, not to be confused with the Kastelli resort in Santorini, is a small hillside town in Western Crete. The leisurely atmosphere makes a Kastelli villa a perfect place to unwind, with plenty of great restaurants and cafes in which to take a well deserved break.
The town sits behind a long sand and pebble beach, which never gets crowded, even in the height of summer. The whole coast is lined with unspoilt beaches to discover, are there are many spectacular little spots to find.
There is also some fantastic walking to enjoy from a self catering Kastelli villa. The Samaria Gorge is a particular favourite with walkers and nature lovers, and there are some excellent trails to take.
The regional capital, Chania, is about 40km from Kastelli, and is well worth taking a few hours to explore. Everything from great shopping to top class restaurants can be found in Chania.
Blessed with the warm, Mediterranean climate of Crete, Kastelli enjoys wonderfully steady conditions almost year round. During the summer months, Kastelli sees temperatures reaching the low-30's. Even during the winter it will often be above 10C during the day.
Chania Airport (CHQ) is just 40km from a self catering Kastelli villa. Chania Airport receives direct flights from airports across the UK throughout the summer, and you can hire a car from the airport. Having a hire car is recommended.
