Holidaymakers looking for a very scenic place to stay on the Mediterranean island of Sardinia should try Isola Rossa. This is a delightful village on the north west of the island that offers many fun things for visitors to see and do. Here visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, villas, apartments and B&Bs.
Isola Rossa is a lovely coastal village offering white sandy beaches for holidaymakers to relax and sunbathe on. As well as swimming in the Mediterranean Sea, visitors can try other watersports too such as diving, wind surfing, sailing and fishing. This area has some terrific scenic views with paths enabling visitors to explore the coast and further inland by hiking or cycling. There are some tennis courts in the village as well that are open to the public.
Some excellent restaurants, bars and cafes can be found in and around Isola Rossa serving local dishes including delicious seafood. In addition to this, self catering holidaymakers can buy food, drink and other provisions from local shops.
There are some excellent towns for holidaymakers to visit in the north of the island. One such place is Alghero, which is approximately an hour from Isola Rossa and features many fine buildings and attractions. The town has many delightful religious buildings including the cathedral consecrated in 1730. Another place worth visiting in Alghero is Neptune’s Grotto, which is a stalactite cave and tourists can take guided tours round this amazing attraction. The city of Sassari is an hour and 20 minute’s drive from Isola Rossa and offers visitors many wonderful buildings. These include the Cathedral of St. Nicholas of Bari, The Church of St. Peter in Silki, Ducal Palace and the Palazzo D’Usini. Another fabulous sight found here is the Fountain of the Rosello, which was built in 1606. There are several museums in the city too including the Historical Museum of Brigata Sissari and the Museum of Science and Technology.
Sardinia enjoys plenty of sunshine in the summer months and stays relatively mild in the winter months. The average high temperatures for July and August are 30 degrees centigrade, with 11 hours of sunshine per day in July. Most of the rainfall on the island occurs during the winter although temperatures reach a minimum high in January of 4 degrees centigrade but may be as high as 15C.
Alghero Airport (AHO) is approximately one hour and 20 minutes drive from Isola Rossa. Flights arrive here from mainland Italy as well as numerous European airports such as Dublin (DUB), Eindhoven (EIN), Frankfurt-Hahn (HHN), London-Stansted (STN), Madrid (MAD) and Stockholm-Skavsta (NYO) amongst others. Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Maggiore, Pinna and Thrifty are car rental firms available at the airport.
