Megeve ski holidays In the shade of Mont Blanc
HomeAway travel expert
An hour outside of Geneva and almost at the top of the Mont blanc region is the chic resort of Megeve. Megeve was the first purpose-built resort in the Alps and spurred later developments such as Avoriaz in the 1960’s. It was developed by the Rothschild family as an alternative to Saint Moritz in the 1920’s. Originally it was a haunt of the rich and famous, and today the villages still holds some of that classic magic. The town itself dates back to medieval times with a wonderful old church in the pedestrianised centre.
As a part of the Domaine Evasion Mont Blanc ski area Megeve has great access to other nearby resorts which are worth a visit. The pistes enjoy good quality snow, great skiing and a wonderful setting with high mountains, the Mont Blanc glacier and deep tree-lined valleys. Make time to get off the piste and tray cross country skiing, a real treat in Megeve.
