TruroCornwall: the land of blue sky, secluded coves and spectacular coastline. Technically it's in England, but in reality it may as well be in the Med, such is the disparity between Cornwall's allotted sunshine and the meagre amounts that are meted out to the rest of the UK. It's also got superb seafood, picturesque ports and other attractions that are best described with the use of alliteration.

If you're planning a trip to Cornwall but have specific requirements in mind – say, a wheelchair-friendly cottage – you're in luck: HomeAway has over 100 gorgeous properties to choose from. Don't choose them for their accessibility though: choose them because they're charming, cosy and quaint. That'll be the alliteration kicking in again.

Wheelchair accessible Cornish cottages

Wheelchair-friendly cottages in South East Cornwall Wheelchair-friendly cottages in South East Cornwall

Looe; Polperro; Tamar; Fowey: their names may sound alien, but they're all to be found in South East Cornwall. While the Eden Project attracts most of the plaudits and punters, this part of Cornwall is blessed with a number of fine gardens, including those at Heligan and Trevamo. As for accommodation, there are some stunning cottages including this home in Talland Bay which forms part of a gated and managed community. It's quiet, has direct access to the shore and is wheelchair friendly. Perfect.

Wheelchair-friendly cottages in Newquay and St Austell Wheelchair-friendly cottages in Newquay and St Austell

Newquay may be a traditional seaside town, but its attractions are anything but conventional. There's Cornwall Gold, an amusement park that also features displays and workshops where you can witness Cornish jewellery being made. Then there's Newquay Zoo, which has over 130 species, plus a steam park and aircraft museum. Accommodation includes Atlantic Cottage, a huge house set within a beach resort. It has four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a patio area and wheelchair access. This is the one for that summer family break.

Wheelchair-friendly cottages in South West Cornwall Wheelchair-friendly cottages in South West Cornwall

There are many reasons to visit South West Cornwall, not least the fact that this is South West Cornwall: it's the end of the line. Any further and you'll wind up in the Atlantic. Don't go that far, but by all means pay a visit to Penzance and Land's End. Holiday cottages in this sou'westerly part of the world include Esther's Field, a 17th-century granite house with thatched roof and a host of modern conveniences including two wood-burning stoves, TV, DVD and wheelchair access; it's ideal for breaks in both summer and winter.

Wheelchair-friendly cottages in St Ives Wheelchair-friendly cottages in St Ives

St Ives is characterised by narrow streets, brightly painted fishermen's cottages, craft shops, galleries and beaches. The air is clear, the water's clean and the sub-tropical gardens are aromatic and bursting with colour. It sure feels like paradise round here. For accommodation, try Architect's Fishing Loft on Porthmeor Beach. It's so close to the sea that at high tide you could be forgiven for thinking you were on a boat: there's nothing but water for as far as the eye can see. Wheelchair access, two double bedrooms and acres of space – OK, not acres, but a generous amount – are all part of the package.

Wheelchair-friendly cottages in Truro and Falmouth Wheelchair-friendly cottages in Truro and Falmouth

Truro is a cultured place, its independent shops and bustling markets complemented by art galleries, museums, bars and restaurants. A visit to the city's gorgeous cathedral is all but essential, while Truro's Georgian streets were made for exploring. Add in a selection of stunning gardens and Truro can be filed under 'something for everyone'. The Old Farm Cottage is a beautifully converted building that lies midway between Truro and Falmouth. It comprises a master bedroom with king size bed, second bedroom, French windows, patio area and wheelchair access. Romantic break away, anyone?
