Bacalhau com Natas
Flaked Cod in a White Sauce
"They say there are 365 ways of cooking bacalhau in Portugal. This is a dish which will be enjoyed by people who say they don't like fish!"

Ingredients:
2 frozen centres of bacalhau or dried cod soaked in water for 24 hours 250g matchstick potatoes
2 onions, finely chopped
For the white sauce:
50 margarine
100g flour
750ml milk
1 tbsp tomato puree
200ml white wine
A dash of piri-piri
1 Knorr meat cube
Salt and pepper
200ml cream
How to cook this dish:
1. Boil and flake the cod.
2. In a saucepan, fry the onions, then add the flaked cod.
3. To make the white sauce, mix the margarine, flour and milk together, then add the remaining ingredients. Make sure the sauce has a runny consistency as it will thicken later when mixed with the other ingredients.
4. Add the white sauce to the cod. Then add the matchstick potatoes.
5. Pour the mixture into an ovenproof dish and heat in a fairly hot oven until golden brown.
