Faucon Holidaymakers already familiar with the south of France should wander north of the Riviera to the famed region of Provence. This stunning region in the southeast of the country lies between the picturesque Rhone valley and the Italian border. Provence’s gentle hills, sun-kissed vineyards, and fragrant lavender fields provide a dazzling backdrop to any holiday. Stretching from the eastern Mediterranean to the spectacular Alps, the region is famed for its historical landmarks, superb climate and gastronomic delights. In fact, holidaymakers may already be well acquainted with Provence’s wines! In the warm summer evenings, travellers can enjoy a cool glass of rosé whilst admiring the majestic peaks of the Alps to the east.

Historically a Roman province, the region is home to landmarks including the Palace of the Popes at Avignon, and the Roman amphitheatre at Arles. The region is easily accessible, with excellent transport links, and offers a wealth of towns and villages to explore. The French market tradition is an important feature of Provençal lifestyle, and each town showcases their own unique market, giving holidaymakers an opportunity to sample delicious local produce. Prepare a picnic and explore the scenery that inspired Van Gogh, before retiring to your HomeAway gite to watch the sun set.
