Jeff Titelius' verdict on Rome
The Roman Forum. Two thousand years of history await in Rome's birthplace. Walk along Via Sacra to the colossal Basilica di Massenzio, the eternal flame at the Temple of Vesta, and the remains of Julius Caesar. Be sure to pre-purchase your tickets.
Piazza Navona. This ancient piazza where Roman chariots once raced is a hub of humanity. Splendid outdoor cafés line its perimeter but don't eat here—overpriced menus for mediocre fare. In the centre, revel in Bernini's masterpiece "Fountain of the Four Rivers".
Vatican City. Perhaps my favourite. Venture inside St. Peter's and climb to the top of the cupola. Then venture below to the ancient Necropolis on the Scavi Tour. Book a front-of-the-line access tour to the Vatican Museum and behold the Sistine Chapel.
