Clean beaches, warm seas and an endless supply of sunshine are all part of the Bahamas holiday package, but that’s only the beginning. Book a family holiday here and there’s the prospect of feeding sharks or, if you’re feeling less bold, of swimming with dolphins. From Cable Beach to Nassau, some of the world’s finest permutations of sand and sea can be found in the Bahamas.
Choose to stay on one of the larger islands such as New Providence or hit up one of the smaller, less populous islands to really get in touch with nature. Charter a glass bottom boat to witness the exquisite coral reefs whose array of colours are clearly visible through the calm water. Ever since Christopher Columbus stepped ashore, the Bahamas have been synonymous with boating. Young children; teenagers; adults: there are enough delights here to comfortably entertain the whole family.

Family holidays in Exuma
Southwest of Nassau lie the Exumas, an archipelago of almost 400 cays and islands. The Exuma Cays are synonymous with the rich and famous who make this paradise their playground. Great Exuma and Little Exuma are ripe for exploration however; Tropic of Cancer Beach is a stunning stretch of shoreline whose powder white sands lead on to clean bluish-green waters. Parasailing and cave diving will appeal to families with older children, while Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park will delight all ages.

Family holidays in Grand Bahama
Aside from the usual array of water-based activities, Grand Bahama boasts three national parks whose unspoiled ecosystem is ripe for exploring. At Lucayan National Park, you’ll find Gold Rock Beach; head there at low tide and the kids should be able to spot starfish, sand dollars and other marine life. At Freeport, Garden of the Groves is a lush expanse of tropical plants and wildlife. When you’ve had your share of exploring, check out Count Basie Square, where live music plays in the evenings and family-friendly entertainment is laid on all through the week.

Family holidays in Eleuthera
Dubbed the Island of Freedom, Eleuthera has won numerous awards for the quality and tranquility of its beaches. The narrow island’s long strips of sand are perfect for lazing on, with blue waters on one side and gently undulating palms on the other. If you can muster the energy for getting active, Eleuthera’s forest trails are ripe for hiking. Visit Gregory Town for souvenirs and freshly cooked lobster and jerk chicken. If the kids are craving home cooked tastes, fear not – simpler fare is also available.
