There are many museums documenting South Africa’s cultural and historical heritage, such as the Castle of Good Hope. For quirky, alternative shopping opportunities, pop down to the Old Biscuit mill on a Saturday morning to find homespun crafts, food and arts. Cape Point nature reserve is worth a day or two, with breathtaking ocean and mountain views. Alternatively, hire a car and drive the Garden Route, enjoyed every year by millions of tourists, where you can see everything South Africa stands for. Cape Town has beautiful, long, white sand beaches. Whilst there may not be as many tourists, you might have to share Boulder beach with it’s African penguins.

To get the best view of the wonderful old buildings, take the boat to Lokrum Island and see it from the sea. After, take a cable car up the mountain to visit the Homeland war museum, housed in the Napoleonic fort. From bustling squares such as Luza to markets or the reflective Dominican monaster, you'll see plenty of exciting sites when you walk above the city walls.
