Hurghada is a popular tourist destination located on the Red Sea coast of Egypt. Stretching for 22 miles along the seashore, Hurghada’s sandy beaches and mix of modern facilities and old town charm have seen it develop from a quiet fishing town to a busy tourist centre within just a few years. Self catering apartments and villas are the most common form of property to rent in Hurghada, and Hurghada villas often have swimming pools and great views as standard.
Hurghada is divided into three parts – Sekella, El Dahar and El Korra Road. Sekalla is a modern and expanding section, which is home to some of the area’s best nightlife, including the world-famous Ministry of Sound venue, El Dahar is the old town where you will find the busy markets and shops, and El Korra Road is a new development that has been created to meet the increasing demand for accommodation in Hurghada.
For those that are looking for an active holiday, Hurghada has plenty to offer. The warm sea and its rich marine content make it an excellent venue for swimming, scuba diving and snorkelling, and the hustle and bustle of the busy bazaars make shopping an energetic pursuit as you hunt for bargains. When it comes to relaxing, the long stretch of sandy beach is the perfect location.
In terms of nightlife Hurghada is perhaps unrivalled in the country, except for Sharm El Sheikh. There are a huge number of bars and clubs along the main street, as well as a casino and several small theatres. Restaurants are varied, but sampling the local Egyptian cuisine is a must. Many restaurants, bars and shops can be found in the recently developed Hurghada Marina Boulevard.
If you wish to get out of Hurghada you can hire a car, or there are many organised day trips on offer, which can take you out on a desert safari, a glass-bottomed boat ride, into Egypt’s capital city Cairo, or to Egypt’s busiest tourist destination of Sharm El Sheikh. Almost any type of excursion can be found - you can even view the Red Sea from the comfort of a submarine if you wish to do so!
As you may expect of an Egyptian resort, Hurghada experiences considerable heat during summer months, when temperatures can hit 40°C on a regular basis. Even the winter months can see the mercury rise to above 25°C. Due to the coastal location a steady breeze helps cool the dry air, and a Hurghada villas rental can be enjoyed at any time of the year.
Hurghada has its own airport (code – HRG), making travel from the UK relatively hassle-free. Direct flights can be found from several UK airports, predominantly through Thomas Cook. Due to the increasing popularity of the resort it is surely only a matter of time before budget flights are also available.
