Holidaymakers looking for a fantastic scenic place to stay in the south of France should try the beautiful village of Grambois. Located in the Provence region in the southeast of the country, this commune is conveniently located close to many great things for holidaymakers to see and do. Grambois is part of the Luberon Regional Nature Park and being on a hilltop it offers some spectacular views. These views and the surrounding countryside can be enjoyed by hiking, cycling and horse riding. There is some tennis courts open to the public in the area as well as golf courses including the Pierevert course. The south coast has some lovely sandy beaches just under an hour away, where holidaymakers can sunbathe and enjoy various watersports. Mountain biking and climbing are also popular in this region, whilst in the winter visitors can also head to the ski resorts of Mont Ventoux. Grambois has a few shops for self catering holidaymakers to buy a few provisions and souvenirs from as well as a Saturday market. Visitors to the area can enjoy some fine French cuisine at various restaurants, bars and cafes. A greater choice of shops and restaurants can be found at larger towns and cities such as Marseille.
The cobblestone streets of Grambois are worth exploring to see ancient houses, the remains of the old ramparts, two old portes and the 16th century Tourrache tower. About two kilometres away is the 14th century Saint Pancrace Chapel and cemetery. Also in the Luberon area is Menerbes, which is less than an hour’s drive away. Here visitors can see the Corkscrew Museum, various wineries and Maison de la Truffe et du Vin. Within a fairly short driving distance are the spectacular sites of the Gorges du Verdun and the Fontaine de Vaucluse. The coastal city of Marseille is less than an hour away and features many wonderful buildings and museums.
The weather between May and September is generally very warm with the average in July and August around 26 degrees centigrade, although temperatures can reach as high as 35 degrees. July is also very dry but the rest of the summer can see a few showers. Winters are cool and wet with December, January and February the coldest months with an average low of 5 degrees centigrade.
Marseille Provence Airport (MRS) is approximately one hour’s drive from Grambois and has flights to and from several European airports. These include Amsterdam (AMS), Brussels (BRU), Frankfurt (FRA), Geneva (GVA), Lisbon (LIS), London-Gatwick (LGW), Madrid (MAD) and Rome-Fiumicino (FCO) amongst others as well as other French airports. Avis, Budget, National/Citer, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt have welcome desks outside the parking lots at the airport.
