Undoubtedly Glitter Bay Beach is the highlight of any Glitter Bay holiday. The beach is small compared to others in Barbados but it is perfectly formed. A stretch of pure white sand greets your eyes as you head down from your luxurious rental villa. Visitors can choose to relax in the sun or indulge in some of the watersports accessible such as water skiing, surfing, windsurfing, fishing, snorkelling and swimming. A diving experience at Glitter Bay Beach is a wonderful way to see the exotic marine life and you may just spot some of the magnificent turtles up close. Other activities available in Glitter Bay include walking, tennis and golf.
Approximately 11 kilometres from Glitter Bay is the island capital of Bridgetown. There is so much to see and do here, it is likely that you will need more than one day to get around it all! One must-see for your itinerary is Queen’s Park on the outskirts of the city. This area used to hold the extravagant residence of the Commander of British troops on the island. The Georgian house has been lovingly restored and is now a combined art gallery and theatre. If you have children in your group, there is a wonderful play area which contains the 1,000 year old giant Baobab tree. There are several stories relating to how this tree came to end up on Barbados!
The whole of the island of Barbados is lucky enough to experience a moderate tropical climate, which means that a Glitter Bay holiday will guarantee an inordinate amount of heat and sunshine! During the dry season temperatures regularly reach a generous 31°C, rarely falling below the minimum temperature of 25°C, although it is cooler during the evening. There is a rainy season which falls between June and November. Visitors do not need to worry too much as the annual rainfall is approximately 40 inches and any rain is quickly drained away. Barbados is outside of the main hurricane belt and so it is very unlikely that visitors will witness tropical storms or hurricanes.
If you decide to go on a Glitter Bay holiday you will arrive at the only airport on the island of Barbados, Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI), which is approximately 20 kilometres to the south. Several airlines offering affordable, regular flights include BMI, Thomas Cook Airlines, British Airways, Thomson Airways, American Airlines and Virgin Atlantic. Travellers can leave the UK from various airports such as Heathrow (LHR), London Gatwick (LGW), Leeds (LBA), Liverpool (LPL) and Edinburgh (EDI).
