Embrun is a small town and commune in southeast France’s Haute-Alpes department. It sits beneath Mont Guillame, perched atop a cliff and features a number of interesting historical sights. Particularly attractive here is the 15th Century organ, which has recently undergone restoration. Elsewhere, it would be well worth seeking out the Romanesque Maison des Chanonges, from the 13th Century and La Tour Brune, a keep tower that dates all the way back to the 1100s and once formed part of the town’s defensive walls. Finally, the Archbishop’s garden and promenade are also particularly lovely.

Alternatively, if you find yourself in the area in the summer, the surrounding mountains offer a host of activities, including hiking, mountain biking, climbing, as well as whitewater rafting, swimming and canyoning at the rivers nearby.

The Place Forte du Mont-Dauphin is a French National Monument, and party of the Fortifications of Vauban, all designed by the Marquis de Vauban between in the late-17th and early 18th Centuries.
