The fishing port of Deiva Marina is a small but perfectly formed example of a beautiful Ligurian village. You will not find busy bars and shopping malls in this rural part of Italy, but if you are looking to get away from the trappings of modern living and enjoy a relaxing countryside break, a holiday Deiva Marina may well be the order of the day. The village lies between the popular tourist town of Portofino and the villages of the Cinque Terra, offering the perfect position from which to explore the region.
Strictly speaking Deiva Marina is a town, but with only a little over 1,000 permanent residents and a homely feel to it, it retains its friendly village feel - and with just a couple of kilometres separating the countryside from the sea, Deiva Marina holiday accommodation could not be better positioned either.
The coastal position of the resort is ideal for water sports activities such as water skiing, windsurfing and sailing, but if all this sounds too energetic for you, you can simply relax with the beverage of your choice and enjoy the excellent views out to sea. The waterfront is also the place to being during balmy summer evenings, when you can follow an enjoyable meal in one of the villages’ restaurants with a stroll around the scenic bay area.
An interesting option in Deiva Marina is to enjoy a boat trip, with several destinations on offer from the small harbour. A popular excursion takes participants eastwards along the coast to the heart of the Cinque Terra region – a beautiful and unspoilt part of the region that does not always get the recognition it deserves it terms of tourist numbers – but other’s loss is your gain.
The beautiful old city of Genoa, parts of which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an hour away from Deiva Marina by car and the most popular day trip destination for visitors to the village. Deiva Marina apartments can also be used as a base for visiting other towns and villages of the La Spezia province, with the nearest town being Levanto, 24km to the south-east. La Spezia itself is just 52km away and can be reached in 45 minutes on a good day.
A holiday in Deiva Marina can be enjoyed at almost any time of the year. The Mediterranean climate means that summer is the hottest season, but with mild winters and a pleasant spring and summer there are plenty of feasible months in which to visit. If you are intent on avoiding rainfall your best bet is to visit during the busiest month of the year – July.
Your chosen Deiva Marina accommodation can be reached in a number of ways from Great Britain, but perhaps the easiest method is to fly to Genoa Airport (GOA, 58km), then pick up a pre-booked hire car on arrival in order to get you to your holiday villa or apartment. British Airways and Ryanair both fly to Genoa, from London Gatwick and London Stansted respectively.
