The historical town of Castro Marim is located on the southeastern tip of Portugal on the banks of the Guadiana River in a region called the Algarve. Further to the south of Castro Marim is the Salt Marsh Natural Reserve. The saltpans and marshes in the area are of great economic importance in the region, and are also a tourist magnet, particularly for the large number of bird species living in the area.
The Spanish border is only 3km east of holiday villas in Castro Marim. If you want a taste of something different you can drive across the bridge and into Spain and explore the Spanish town of Ayamonte and sample Spanish cuisine before heading back to your Castro Marim accommodation.
There are plenty of sandy beaches nearby including Alagoa, Cabeço, Retur, Altura and Vila Real de Santo António, as well as the lively town of Monte Gordo.
Castro Marim has a wonderful, sunny climate making it a fantastic holiday destination year round. The summers are hot and dry with temperatures average rising into the 30°s and up to 12 hours of sunshine each day. Autumn and spring are mild with temperatures in the low 20°s and plenty of sunshine. Winters are wet and mild averaging around 15°C.
