Castelnuovo Berardenga is often thought of as an appendage of the larger Tuscan town of Siena, but is actually a town in its own right. Castelnuovo Berardenga is full of history and is an ideal destination for families or couples looking for a relaxing break in the rolling hills of Tuscany, with numerous self-catering villas dotted around the town’s outskirts.
Castelnuovo Berardenga is best explored on foot, where visitors can appreciate the magnificent architecture which dates back to the 18th century. Any walking tour of the town should include a visit to the church of Santi Gusto e Clemente which holds some historically important artworks. Visitors can also climb the tower of Poggio ai Castelli for a wonderful aerial view of the town and the surrounding Tuscan hills. Visitors may also explore the remains of the castle from which the town takes its name.

The local economy of Castelnuovo Berardenga is largely dependent on winemaking, and visitors should include a trip to one of the numerous local vineyards in their itinerary. The town really comes alive in September with the annual Grape Festival, which offers wine tasting many of these vineyards as well as numerous traditional cultural activities which all the family can take part in.

Summer temperatures usually average between 25C and 30C and remain warm until well into the autumn. Even in the winter, temperatures rarely dip below freezing and rain is infrequent, making Castelnuovo Berardenga a pleasant destination for a winter break.

The airport is around 100km away from Castelnuovo Berardenga, but it is possible to pick up a hire car from the airport to get to your villa, and this may be beneficial for the rest of the holiday given the rural nature of the town.
