Cas en Bas is a deep C-shaped bay on the northeastern side of St Lucia. Being on the Atlantic side of the island it benefits from the breezy trade winds yet the waters remain calm due to the offshore reef. The bay is particularly popular with kitesurfers. The area around the delightful Cas en Bas holiday villas offers beautiful beaches, hiking, golf and other watersports. The nearby Cotton Bay Village has plenty of local shopping and dining and Rodney Bay is ideal for dining out on Creole, French, Asian and continental cuisine.
The Kitesurfing School at Cas en Bas is a draw to this lovely area of St Lucia where the calm warm waters and constant trade winds provide the perfect conditions for windsurfing, sailing, swimming, jet skiing and other popular watersports. Further inland there are walking trails which hug the rocky, cactus-strewn coastline. Secret Beach and Donkey Beach, with its golden sands and volcanic cliffs, are easy to walk to and offer isolation apart from a few local fishermen. Another great way to explore the area is on horseback and the riding stables at Gros Inlet arrange rides for all levels of ability. Enjoy a beach picnic or combine a ride through the countryside with a swim and a ride along the beach. The local 18-hole golf course is just 10 minutes from your Cas en Bas holiday rental and the course benefits from some amazing sea views. Fishing is another popular activity and hiking in the rainforest past old sugar plantations and turtle sanctuaries is a great way to enjoy the scenic views.
Gros Inlet is deceptively quiet by day, but on Friday evening it comes to life with a huge street party. It offers a chance to let your hair down in an authentic St Lucian atmosphere with Caribbean music, dancing and food stalls. Marigot Bay is a well-known resort nearby where a small ferry carries passengers offshore to the beautiful Marigot Beach Club. Roseau is a lovely day out to see the banana plantations and visit the St Lucia Rum Distillery. The local church has some fine murals of the Black Madonna by local artist, Dunstan St Omer. The beach at Anse Lavoutte is a favourite spot for leatherback turtles to lay their eggs between March and July. Arrangements can be made with the turtle watches organized at Grande Anse to see these amazing creatures.
The Caribbean Islands are noted for their year-round tropical sunshine, and temperatures rarely stray from 29-31°C (84-88°F). From June to November the rainfall increases during the rainy season, but generally falls as short tropical afternoon showers.
Visitors to the holiday villas at Cas en Bas will fly into the main Hewanorra (UVF) International Airport which is at Vieux Fort, about 2 hours drive from Cas en Bas. For island-hopping, the regional airport is GFL Charles (SLU) Airport at Vigie which is just 30 minutes from Cas en Bas.
