The village of Canyelles lies 50km from Barcelona, in the north-east of the Garraf Comarca. As well as offering visitors a slice of traditional Catalan village life, Canyelles offers close access to the beaches and the busier resorts of the Costa Dorada coast. Holiday accommodation in Canyelles is ideal for those wishing to explore the Barcelona region, but want to avoid the hustle and bustle that comes with staying in a big city.
Canyelles is a small village which offers a peaceful and relaxing base for those who want to explore the Barcelona province. The village has basic, traditional amenities such as a bakery, a small supermarket, a bank, and several restaurants. There is also a popular Sunday morning produce market in the town square, which is an ideal place to meet the locals and practice your Catalan.
The village also has a bar which is hugely popular for its Tapas. Every visitor should try several of the small dishes during their stay, which can include fried squid, chorizo, olives, patatas bravas (fried potato with spicy tomato sauce) and pulpo (octopus). As well as being authentic and delicious, it is far cheaper here than the busy tourist centres of Barcelona.
Although Canyelles is not itself on the coast, the beaches are just a short distance away. The best coastal towns to head for in terms of facilities are the popular resorts of Vilanova i la Geltru and Sitges, both of which have a vibrant nightlife, and cater for a mix of locals and foreign tourists.
Canyelles also hosts a number of festivals, which make for an excellent time to visit. These include the July Festa Major de Canyelles, the Petit Festa Major (September) and the Fira de Santa Lucia (December).
It goes without saying that any visitor to Canyelles should be looking to spend at least a few days in the magnificent city of Barcelona. Whether you prefer to marvel at Gaudi’s masterpiece La Sagrada Familia, tour the famous Nou Camp home of Barcelona Football Club, or enjoy top-quality shopping in the Gracia area, Barcelona has something to offer.
Canyelles experiences a Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and warm summers. The average temperature between the popular summer period of June and September is 25C, whilst even in the coldest month of January the average is above 10C. Apart from the final months of the year Canyelles receives a low amount of rainfall.
Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN) is just 43km from Canyelles, and represents the best option when holidaying in the area. Flights to this destination can be found from all around Britain through a number of airlines such as easyJet and BmiBaby. Reus Airport (REU) is an equally viable option, and requires a 60km journey in the opposite direction.
