Set on Majorca’s eastern coast in the Santanyi region, Cala d’Or is a smart, purpose built seaside resort, based around 4km of sandy coves and streams with a Majorcan fishing village atmosphere. The fine coastline, clear waters and luxury apartments in Cala d’Or make it a favourite with English and Irish holidaymakers. It is really a collection of small resorts nested together around the coves and inlets of the coast, and the majority of accommodations in Cala d’Or are luxury villas and houses.
Cala Gran, the central area of Cala d’Or has a variety of shops, bars and restaurants, but does lack some of the family holiday facilities like mini-golf or swimming pools. The beach here adequately makes up for it though. It is not huge, but is an idyllic spot to sunbathe and swim.
The village of Cala d’Or is not par from the resort, set in a beautiful pine covered cove with a sun lounger covered beach.
There are many small cove beaches to choose from when staying in a Cala d’Or holiday villa. Although many do get crowded during high season, the further you go around the coast, the better and less full the beaches become. Es Trenc is a stunning golden beach with calm waters lapping serenely against the shore, which rarely becomes crowded, and is a popular naturist beach.
In the evenings, there are a number of lively bars, restaurants and hotel based entertainments although this is not a rowdy resort by any means. From a self catering Cala d’Or holiday rental you will certainly not go hungry, as the selection of restaurants is vast and varied and the morning markets in Felanitx and Santanyi offer magnificently fresh produce.
Val d’Or Golf Club is open to the public, located at 7 miles from any of the properties in Cala d’Or. There are another 13 golf courses in Majorca to enjoy, the best being at Son Servera, Pula and Capdepera.
The scuba diving in Cala d’Or is unsurpassed, and there are many opportunities to dive from a Cala d’Or holiday apartment. The Marina is where many trips leave from, and you can also hire a boat for trips around the coast or fishing expeditions.
With summers lasting for five months from May until September, and temperatures rarely dropping below 10°C, the luxury villas in Cala d’Or are rarely empty. The summer sees temperatures of 27°C, and the golf courses remain open all year round.
Palma Airport (SPC) is 40 miles from the holiday villas in Cala d’Or, although the road across Majorca is not a fast one. Transfers take around an hour and a half. Palma receives daily flights from 14 UK airports, and cheap flights to Cala d’Or are provided by easyJet and Ryanair.
