Binixica is on the South East coast of Menorca just a short distance from the coast. There are plenty of restaurants in the area with a wide choice of cuisine and a live Jazz Club in the casino bar at Sant Climent. Beaches, watersports and caves will keep all the family amused. The island is delightful to explore, with lovely views from the highest point of the island, Monte Toro.
Shopping - There is a leather factory and several costume jewellery factories on the island and coach trips can be made to visit and buy some first rate bargains. The area is also famous for its local cheese which can be bought from nearby farms.
Beaches and Watersports - The nearest beach to your self catering villa is Cala’n Porter which is just 4km away. There are several watersports activities available as well as glass-bottomed boat trips. Other top beaches of the 100 on Menorca are Arenal d’en Castell, a fine horseshoe shaped bay and Son Saura beach which is perfect for children, with its fine white sand and shallow water.
The capital of the island is Mahon, just 8km from your Binixica villa. It has a racing tack with go-carting and horse racing on the calendar. A trip to the port of Mahon is great fun. Stop at the local gin factory and taste some of the free samples of the different types of gin they produce here. Opposite the gin factory are tour boats which will take you on a trip around the island. See where Nelson lived, and where Richard Branson has a home, as well as the historic La Mola fort. La Mola is found on the opposite side of the port to the gin factory, but it is a fair distance so it is best to drive there. The old fort has underground passages, tunnels and hidey holes, a former prison and some excellent sea views too.
Combine a pleasant walk with some time at the beach when you visit Cala Pregonda. This remote beach is about 37km (23 miles) drive from your villa at Binixica. It is then a 20 minute walk down to the beach from the car park. The pretty views are well worth the walk and the bay is ideal for snorkeling around the rocky outcrops.
Monte Toro is the highest point in Menorca and gives great views as you drive up the steep winding road to it. There is a café with a terrace from which to enjoy the views all over the island and an old church marks the summit.
Year-round sunshine is the key to the beautiful holiday which can be enjoyed at Binixica, Menorca. Winters seldom see temperatures below 16C (61F) during the day. Summers are hot and dry with average temperatures reaching 23-29C (73-84F). Rain falls mainly in the winter months with around 5 inches a month from October to February.
