If you are looking for tranquillity, spectacular sea views, a close proximity to the beach and most of all peace from the tourist masses, then the village of Bel Air is the place for you. Situated on the south-eastern coast of the island of Barbados, Bel Air is a hidden gem, located on sweeping cliffs with breathtaking Atlantic Ocean views. Renting a villa in the village guarantees perfect quiet but with a range of activities at your fingertips should you feel like being adventurous.
Staying in a rental villa in the village of Bel Air presents plenty of opportunity for activities. There is a long stretch of beach on your doorstep where you can simply relax in the sun or indulge in some watersports such as fishing, sailing, water skiing, kite surfing, windsurfing and diving. Also available in the immediate area of Bel Air are activities including tennis, golf, bird watching, cycling and a gymnasium.
Located a short drive to the northwest of Bel Air is the capital city of Barbados, Bridgetown. This bustling capital has many attractions worth putting on your itinerary. If it is history, culture or art, then Bridgetown is the place to visit once you tear yourself away from your rental villa!
First on your list should be the Jewish Synagogue in the city, which is one of the oldest in the Western Hemisphere and the only one in Bridgetown. The synagogue is open fully to visitors and has a cemetery adjacent to it, which contains graves dating back past the date of erection, which was 1654.
Next on your itinerary is the Barbados Museum which is housed in an old 19th century British prison. The museum was started in 1933 and contains many artefacts relating to Barbadian history including maps, paintings, silver and ceramics.
Visitors who rent a Bel Air villa can expect sunshine and warmth most of the year round. The daytime temperature can range from 25°C to 30°c during the summer months, meaning there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors to your heart’s content. The wet season does run from June to November but the amount of rainfall is generally minimal. Barbados is just out of reach of the hurricane belt so it is highly unlikely that you will encounter hurricanes or tropical storms.
Bel Air is located approximately 11 kilometres to the east of the only airport on Barbados, Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI). Many operators offer affordable flights to the airport including British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Thomson Airways, BMI and Thomas Cook Airlines. Travellers can leave from various airports in the UK including Manchester (MAN), Aberdeen (ABZ), London Gatwick (LGW), Heathrow (LHR), Birmingham (BHX) and Leeds (LBA).
