Bar-sur-Loup is a beautiful old village perched high on a rock outcrop overlooking the River Loup on the Cote d’Azur - Riviera. The old village layout, a circle centred on the 13th century Bar-sur-Loup Chateau, is still maintained, with large sections of the original defensive walls still clearly visible. As cars are forbidden in Bar-sur-Loup, there is very little that disturbs the peace, and when combined with the beautiful rocky scenery of the Loup Valley, it is very easy to relax in a Bar-sur-Loup apartment or holiday home.
The hiking along the Sarree Plateau and both the Loup Valleys and the Gourdon Valley next door is excellent, offering stunning views over the countryside and across to the famous Cote d’Azur. There are a great many nationally recognised hiking trails throughout the surrounding countryside, all starting from the Ave de Yorktown, which can be easily found from a holiday rental in Bar-sur-Loup. Although the famous Bar-sur-Loup Chateau is privately owned and not accessible to visitors, it provides a beautiful centrepiece to the village, and means you can gain you bearings and work out which of the properties in Bur-sur-Loup you are staying in from a great distance!
The hills surrounding Bur-sur-Loup are a great place for paragliding and hangliding, and throughout the summer, canopies can be seen floating majestically above the roof of the Bar-sur-Loup chateau.
