Annecy is a wonderful town to visit. Sitting on the shores of the beautiful Alpine lake that shares its name, Annecy could hardly be more picturesque. The pavement cafes that sit along the town's many canals give beautiful waterside and amazing mountain views at the same time, making it one of the best places to simply sit back, relax, and watch the world drifting timelessly by.
There is a great amount to see and do in the town itself. The canal side cafes and restaurants are of great appeal, and during the summer, the streets are filled with an almost carnival atmosphere. The beautiful Palais de L'Isle is a must-see attraction, and the Chapel of the Holy Source, dating back to the 16th century should not be missed either.
Whatever season you decide to visit Annecy, there will be no shortage of activity. The summer and early autumn months are fantastic for walking, climbing and mountain biking in the Alps, with many people taking Annecy accommodation just to explore the mountains. The lake itself is also a huge attraction, being perfect for swimming, fishing, waterskiing, windsurfing and sailing, as well as picnicking in some of the best scenery is Southern France.
The winter is no less attractive. The famous ski resort of Courcheval and the Portes du Soleil ski domain are within easy reach of a day's skiing, offering something for every level of skier to enjoy. The Portes du Soleil is the largest ski area in the world, and is sure to satisfy any skiing or snowboarding urges you might have.
A holiday rental home in Annecy is not just a great place from which to explore the French Alps, but both Switzerland and Italy can be easily reached on a day-trip. Geneva, the Swiss capitol is less than an hour's (very scenic) drive, and is a great place to spend the day. The huge range of shops, restaurants and museums means that there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Annecy's Alpine location means that the seasons are hugely different. The winter months are enchanting, yet cold, with snow covering the mountains and a frost in the air. Early summer is one of the best times to visit, as the scenery springs into life with all the blossoming flowers giving it an amazingly colourful make-over.
Geneva Airport, just across the border of Switzerland is the best place from which to reach a holiday rental villa or apartment in Annecy, France. There are regular direct flights from the UK, and there are plenty of hire car companies to use.
