Located on the westernmost tip of Mallorca, Andratx (Puerto Andratx) is a charming town set slightly back from the coast, surrounded by lush groves of almond, orange and olives. The original part of the town, set just inland to resist pirate attacks, hangs onto the hillside, connected by narrow, cobbled streets and set underneath an imposing fortress style church. However, the majority of holiday properties in Andratx are down by the new marina or Port of Andratx, where small, colourful fishing boats intermingle with large, luxury yachts.
Andratx is set in stunningly beautiful surroundings, with cliffs and towering mountains plunging into the clear turquoise seas all around the village. Both the coastline and the Tramuntana Mountains provide a wealth of possibilities for walkers and hikers, whether you are hoping to conquer a peak, find a breath taking view point or discover a secluded cove beach to yourself, there are a choice of routes through a range of landscapes to take!
The most impressive tourist attractions in the village are undoubtedly the dramatic Son Mas Castle, which holds a number of important masterpieces by Tintoretto and Durer, the Church of Santa Maria and the beautiful City Hall and botanic garden.
Scuba diving is the most celebrated activity to be enjoyed from an Andratx apartment, and there are a few PADI registered dive centres along the marina to choose from. The clear waters which surround Andratx mean that visibility is great, and there are many excellent sights to be seen.
Just outside the village, towards Camp de Mar is the golf course of golf de Andratx, which is both open to visitors and a magnificent place to play, regardless of your ability levels as there is certain to be a challenge for any golfer.
Santa Ponsa lies a few miles along the West Coast of Mallorca, and is a hugely popular and lively resort which has become a particular favourite for Scottish and Irish travellers. Santa Ponsa offers a livelier alternative to taking an apartment in Andratx, and also has some glorious beaches to choose from.
All year round, a holiday property in Andratx offers visitors the chance to bask in the warm sun, without being rendered useless by relentless heat. Average temperatures hover around 10˚C in winter and a blissfully warm 24˚C in summer.
Andratx is around 30km from Son Sant Joan International Airport (PMI), and there are numerous taxi firms willing to drop you right at the front door of your Andratx property or apartment for around £25. Alternatively, car rentals are available from the airport.
