Altamonte Springs holiday villas are found in this northern suburb of Orlando, a great hop-off point to see the highlights of Florida. From the adrenaline-pumping amusement parks Orlando is famous for, to the huge tracts of white-sand shores along the Atlantic coast, rentals at Altamonte Springs ensure a relaxing beginning and end to each busy day. Every Altamonte Springs apartment comes air-conditioned, and is equipped with satellite or cable TV, and a kitchen and laundry facility. Most have access to a pool and BBQ area.
-Theme Parks: Orlando's theme parks are world renowned for good reason: there's nowhere else with a higher concentration, or so far at the forefront of ride technology. From the Shuttle Launch experience at the Kennedy Space Centre Visitors' Complex to old stalwarts like Disney World and Universal Studios, amusement parks don't get better.
-Nightlife: Altamonte Springs accommodation is located in a fairly affluent suburb of Orlando, so the nightlife can be a little restrained and refined. This can be beneficial for shattered nerves after the big rides in Orlando, however, and means the quality of food and service is generally excellent. More raucous nights out can be had on the coast or in Orlando itself.
-Beaches: The beaches of the Space Coast are only a short drive east, and despite the focus on space flight here, they are as good as any beaches elsewhere in Florida. A broad strip of sand runs for literally dozens of miles down Florida's Atlantic seaboard barrier islands, allowing good surfing on the east side and safe boating landward.
-Golf: The two main golfing options near Altamonte Springs holiday accommodation are Winter Pines Golf Club and Dudsdread Golf Course; both situated either side of the scenic Winter Park suburb a couple of miles to the south. The area does, in itself, promise a pleasant day out shopping, walking, or browsing.
-Nature: The iconic Florida Everglades begin just south of Orlando with the broadening of the Kissimmee river, and extend all the way to the southern tip of the state. With seven ecosystems there is plenty to explore. Closer to home, there is the fascinating Mead Botanical Garden to explore in Winter Park.
The water table is so high in Florida that it looks in perpetual flood, but this is perfectly normal. All this water means that the land temperature doesn't heat or cool as quickly as dryer states, so temperatures never achieve the dizzying heights of Texas or Arizona. The humidity, however, is a direct result, which produces regular thunderstorms throughout the summer to account for virtually all of Florida's annual rainfall. Summer temperatures top out in the mid-30°C range, while winters are often more attractive with temperatures in the low-20s.
With direct flights to the UK and Europe from both Orlando International and Orlando-Sanford International airports, it couldn't be more convenient to get to Altamonte Springs, which is located midway between the two. If any, Orlando-Sanford may have the edge with more budget airlines and an 18-mile commute versus the 22 miles to Orlando. Orlando itself does have a fairly substantial public transport system, but for getting around in America, the car is always king; with petrol at a fraction of UK prices, the convenience is hard to beat. There are Greyhound and Amtrak stations available, however, if the Americana travel bug becomes irresistible.
