Situated just a short distance outside of the city of Valencia, Alboraya is a rapidly expanding commuter area of the famous Spanish city, and one that offers good accommodation options for those that would like to locate themselves on the fringes of the action. Close to the beach and well linked to the city, Alboraya has plenty to keep visitors of all ages happy, with many attractions of its own, in addition to those in Valencia.
99.9% of visitors to Alboraya are using the area as a base from which to visit Valencia – the centre of which is just 6km away. Transport links between the two areas have improved substantially in recent years, with the metro now offering the most convenient way of getting into the city centre. Alboraya boasts two metro stops on Line 3 of the Valencia metro system, namely Alboraia and Palmaret.
Alboraya was originally a farming community, and the roaming fields around the area pay testament to this, adding a slice of the countryside for those on a big city break. Just a short walk from the main bulk of the self-catering accommodation in Alboraya is a 4km stretch of coastline, which runs from Port Saplaya to Patacona. This area offers sunbathing, snorkelling and a variety of other water sports and makes for a pleasant walk, usually amidst refreshing sea breezes.
Those who like to explore will discover many sites of interest around Alboraya, including the Chapel Saplaya and the interestingly-named Chapel of the Miracle of the Tree-Fish. The Miracle of the Tree-Fish is also the centre of an ancient fiesta held in Alboraya, which dates all the way back to 1348, and is held every Whit Monday inside the chapel.
A short journey on the metro will take you into the heart of Valencia, a city rich in heritage and modern attractions. Spain's third largest city is particularly renowned for its architecture, with numerous Baroque and Romanesque structures dotted along its winding streets. Other nearby cities such as ancient Sagundo (25km) offer excellent day-trip potential.
There is not really a 'bad' time in which to visit Alboraya, with summer temperatures peaking at over 30C, and temperatures of over 12C witnessed on most days of the year. Spring is a great time to visit, when temperatures start to rise and rainfall is around its lowest.
Flights to Valencia Airport (VLC) can be booked through several UK-based airlines, ranging from budget options to first class luxury.
