Holidaymakers heading to Icod de los Vinos will find it has many interesting things to do and see. Icod de los Vinos is located in the northwest of the Canary Island of Tenerife and provides year round warm weather. Here visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, villas, cottages and apartments.
The beach here comprises of black sand and modern facilities making it a nice spot to sunbathe and enjoy a swim in the sea. Holidaymakers will find many opportunities to try out different watersports and activities such as diving, jet skis, banana boats and paragliding. Several sailing trips around the island can also be enjoyed by visitors and include whale watching tours. Several theme parks are located on the island including Aqualand and Siam Park at Costa Adeje, the latter being the largest waterpark in Europe. There are a few golf courses on Tenerife including at Buenavist and Puerto de la Cruz. Other activities popular in Tenerife include go karting, buggy racing, quad biking and ten pin bowling. There are many bars, pubs and restaurants in the area with a variety of dishes but mostly excellent Canarian cuisine. Several shops are available to purchase gifts and souvenirs from, as well as places for self catering holidaymakers to purchase food and beverages.
Icod de los Vinos has some interesting buildings including the Church of San Marcos. Near the church is the ancient dragon tree, which is said to be thousands of years old. Cueva del Viento is thought to be the largest volcanic cave in the world and is well worth a visit. A trip to Tenerife wouldn’t be complete without an excursion to Mount Teide, which is arguably the island’s most famous landmark. There are a number of interesting places to visit on the island including several wildlife parks and zoos. Tenerife also boasts numerous museums and historic buildings. There are plenty of scenic views, parks and gardens to be enjoyed on the island including La Caldera del Rey, which is a farm surrounded by volcanic mountains, forests and canyons.
The warmest months of the year are July and August with an average maximum temperature of 29-30C with 11 hours of sunshine per day. Even in January and February the temperatures can be as high as 21C during the day. The wettest month is December with an average of 51mm of rainfall for the month.
Tenerife North Airport (TFN) is approximately a 45 minute drive from Icod de los Vinos and has flights to and from cities on the Spanish mainland and other Canary Islands as well as Dusseldorf and Nuremburg in Germany and Helsinki in Finland. Visitors from other European destinations will need to fly to Tenerife South Airport (TFS), which has flights to and from major cities including Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Geneva, London, Moscow, Paris and Rome amongst others. This airport is approximately an hour and a quarter's drive to Icod de los Vinos. Car rental firms are represented at both airports and there are taxis available outside the terminal buildings.
