Also known under its full name of Aldeia Das Acoteias (Acoteias Village), Acoteias is nestled in a pine tree clad area of countryside almost half-way between both Albufeira and Vilamoura. This scenic location has lead to many holidaymakers regarding Acoteias as one of the most relaxing spots in the central Algarve, with the village being something of a hidden gem that sees many first-time visitors return to it the following year.
Surrounded almost completely by pine trees, Acoteias can be firmly regarded as one of the most relaxing and scenic destinations in the Algarve. Acoteias, Algarve is also a great destination for golf lovers, as it is just a short distance from the excellent course at the Sheraton Pine Cliffs Resort – which is also where you will find a range of other sporting options such as tennis and swimming pools.
Nearby Falesia beach is one of the cleanest and best beaches in the entire Algarve, and provides great opportunities for both sunbathing and walking along its 8km long sandy stretch. The waters are clean and make for excellent swimming, and are pleasantly warm during summer months. Diving and fishing are also popular pastimes along the beach, all performed to a spectacular backdrop of rust-coloured cliffs.
In terms of amenities, a full range of bars, shops, small supermarkets and restaurants can be found between the beach and the centre of Acoteias. The Algarve Shopping Centre is also just a few minutes’ walk away, and contains more of the same, as well as a nine-screen cinema. For those seeking more in the way of amenities, Albufeira town is just 9km away, and has a huge range of both modern and traditional attractions, and Vilamoura is 11km in the opposite direction.
Whilst enjoying a holiday in Acoteias you may wish to visit a few of the other towns and villages that make the Albufeira area of the Algarve so special. Two recommended options are the picturesque village of Guia (11km) – which is revered for its excellent cuisine, and Olhos de Agua (3km) – another relaxing beach spot, which is known for its fresh water springs.
The weather of Acoteias is typical of that of the Algarve in general, with mild winter months and warm summers. Temperature variations are not that extreme in this part of Portugal, so whether you visit in January or July, you can expect at least a few hours of sunshine every day.
Busy and modern, Faro Airport (FAO) serves the Algarve region, and is situated 30km from Acoteias. Flights can be found here from all around the UK, and with the airport being a major destination for budget airlines, bargains are there to be had when booking well in advance.
