A trip to the northern end of Lake Maggiore provides a wonderful setting for a holiday any time of the year. This portion of the Lake is in Switzerland and is a picturesque setting with many interesting things for visitors to do and see. The temperature in Southern Switzerland is hottest in July and August when the average maximum is approximately 29 degrees centigrade. Temperatures normally stay in the 20 degree centigrade area between May and September. October is usually the wettest month of the year with an average of 110 mm rainfall.
Orio al Serio Airport near Bergamo in Northern Italy is one of the nearest to the Swiss side of Lake Maggiore and is approximately a one and three quarter hour drive away. The airport has low cost flights with Ryanair the main airline operating here with flights to and from domestic and major European destinations such as Berlin, Brussels, Dublin, Madrid and Paris and numerous British airports including Bristol, East Midlands, London-Stansted, Liverpool and Glasgow.
