Ruilobuca farmhouse property fully restored sleeps 6-12

Our family of five stayed in one side of the farmhouse for a week in early summer, and our children still talk about our perfect vacation in Cantabria. Comillas is a gem! The location is perfect to see the caves, Picos de Europa, and of course the lovely beaches. The house was great for us to have lazy breakfasts outdoors, and there are at least a week's worth of walks right from the house.

Our hosts Carmen and Richard were wonderful; they gave us lots of good advice, our children adored them, and we watched the World Cup with them too. Our only advice would be to rent the whole house if you were planning to spend a lot of time there (the side we stayed does not have the living room, game room nor connecting yard).

A group of 6 'old' friends travelled from Australia to stay in this area of Spain. Obviously we were full of anticipation and we were not disappointed. It offered all that we wanted. The village is very quiet, with very few services but the bigger centre of Comillas is only a very short, very pretty drive away. The cottage itself offers excellent views of the surrounding countryside and is very comfortably equipped. We used the whole house, rather than just having a half house. That gave us two laundry rooms, two kitchens (we only used one of each though) and heaps of space to spread out. We used the outdoor room a lot as it was bright and airy - a great all weather room. We lounged around in the garden and read our books, enjoying the sunshine, tranquillity and the views.

The cooking facilities were pretty good, but we found that some basic pieces of equipment were missing. We bought what we needed and just left it for the next guests. The furniture in the living area was not too comfortable and we didn't use it at all. The cottage was very clean which is good because the three women in the party are cleanliness fanatics! For us, the TV was not particularly useful as we couldn't pick up any English speaking channels. The beds were extremely comfortable and there was heaps of room in the bedrooms.

Carmen and Richard were extremely genial hosts and spent time with us pointing out local sights and suggesting interesting drives. We visited a number of nearby beaches and were really impressed, which is saying something as we are spoilt for beaches in Australia. The beaches of Northern Spain are certainly impressive. A great spot for drives to Picos de Europa, Santander,Bilbao. Highly recommended to all.
