A real find - Magic holiday in wonderful villa
We didn't expect this villa to live up to its rave reviews but it is even better than they suggest. The villa is absolutely wonderful, superbly clean & well equipped with the most wonderful views across Sóller. Sóller itself is a gem with lots of lovely little shops & eating places. We particularly liked Café Sóller in the square - the wait for food is long but worth it, especially the sirloin & the lamb. The town is about 15 minutes walk down hill from the villa & about 30 minutes coming back up the hill having indulged in some wonderful orange juice (mornings only alas!), delicious food, great local wine (any time of day!) & of course ice cream for dessert. The great thing is that the walk up hill means all food indulgence is guilt free! We also ate at the villa some evenings, a magical spot after dark in the glow of the superbly positioned terrace & pool lights, looking down on the twinkling lights of Sóller. The kitchen is wonderfully equipped and there is a superb barbecue area. We bought most of our food from the local Spar which is about 10 minutes from the villa and is well stocked with the usual needs & also a butcher’s counter & deli. We didn’t have a car and we didn’t need one. Sue & Neal who couldn’t be more helpful, arranged the lovely José to pick us up from the airport. He transported us to Sóller throwing in a guided tour of Sóller’s narrow streets on the way – this convinced us that we didn’t want a car! We took the lovely old train to Palma one day but found the city too busy for our liking after the laid back style of Sóller. We also walked from the villa over the mountain to Port Sóller which was delightful & came back on the magnificent tram. Waking up at the villa is magic. The local cock starts his morning call, followed by the neighing of his good friend the donkey, soon to be followed by the chiming of the Town Hall & church bells waking Sóller from its sleepy slumbers. Throw open the shutters & step onto the terrace and the magic continues with an assault on the senses – the smell of wood fires, a blue mist over Sóller making it even more magical, & the first glints of the rising sun reflecting on the mountains opposite. With a cup of coffee in hand (from the wonderful coffee maker) it’s time to stretch out on the lounger by the pool & prepare for another glorious day at Casa Verde. It’s now a cold snowy January day in England but we have just cheered ourselves up by booking Casa Verde again for September. Can't wait!
