For guest book comments please request,: The very name Fornalutx is the subject of debate. Some say it derives from horno and lutz, describing the man’s view of the carbon burning oven lights as they clambered down in the evening from harvesting the terraces. Others say that it originates from the glow of the smithy’s forge, forja or formel. The English poet Robert Graves, who lived for many years in nearby Deía, speculated that the ending '-lutx' came from the Latin 'lux', as in light and Lucifer! He related this to tales of witchcraft in medieval times. Your choice. The smithy is still there; his fine work evidenced by beautiful hand crafted railings and village lampposts.

Soller has a pleasant swimming pool and tennis cou: Fornalutx on the edge of the village ,boasts a children's play ground and Tennis courts. Also two Petanque courts. A bus service travels between Fornalutx, Biniaraix and Soller on a regular basis.

There is now a small interesting Museum close to the Ajunamente.

Fornalutx enjoys a well-deserved reputation as one of the most picturesque villages in Spain and has won several national awards for the loving way in which buildings, streets and amenities are cared for and maintained. Fornalutx offers a true oasis of tranquillity, scented by citrus trees and almond blossoms. As its ancient houses built in mellow, terracotta stone stand sentinel over narrow cobbled mule paths - so the imposing peaks of the Tramuntanas fall steeply into the sea, creating coves so sheltered as to be almost invisible. These in turn give way to lush green valleys and - in the winter - rushing torrentes. Many of these areas can be explored from the village by taking the local twisting mountain roads, revealing a different panoramic vista at each turn..

Close to Fornalutx is the Baranque - one of the wonders of the world. Starting from the hamlet Biniaraix, these stone steps were cut through the mountains perhaps 2,500 years ago by the Carthaginians.

Amazing property in lovely Majorcan village

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 10 August 2011 Date of Stay: June 2011
Had a wonderful stay in June 2011 with my fiancee and mother. The house is a beautiful place to stay in the pretty village of Fornalutx.

The pictures do not do the house justice! We were surprised at how big the house is and how lovely. The roof terrace is stunning!!!!

The village of Fornalutx has everything you need for cafes, bars and shops. After a week we felt like we were locals.

Would highly recommend both Fornalutx and this property. Be aware that as the house is spread over 4 floors you do need to be able to walk up and down stairs. It's well worth a trip up to the roof terrace at every opportunity though. Parking is not a problem as there is a free parking area in the centre of the village behind the medical centre.

We had a lovely week in Fornalutx and would return to Casa Tim and Gully without hesitation. We even tried our hand at doing some painting on the roof terrace - with mixed success!

Casa Tim and Gully, Fornalutx

Review Submitted: 19 October 2010 Date of Stay: August 2010
We've just spent our second holday in this lovely house in Fornalutx. We are a family of four, with two children and love the size of the house and it's location in the heart of the village. It is well-maintained and spotlessly clean. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone who wanted to spend a relaxing holday either going down to the beach or walking in the beautiful countryside that surrounds the village.

We liked both resturants on the road leading out of the village with views over the valley, and having a drink in the bars in the village square but most of all we enjoyed having dinner on the rooftop terrace watching the sunset over the Tramuntana mountain range.

Charming Holiday Home

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 12 September 2010 Date of Stay: June 2010
Casa Tim & Gully gave us the perfect base for our family reunion (June 2010) and for exploring this lovely part of northern Mallorca. Beautifully furnished and in good condition it was a privilege to be allowed to share this cosy home.

It was just right for the six of us giving all the facilities we needed. Internally there are some steep stairs so it won't suit those who have difficulty managing steps (we appreciated the exercise!). The roof top terrace (there is no garden) suited us perfectly. The weather was kind to us so it was the perfect place for breakfast or a sundowner or just to relax and enjoy the lovely views.

The easiest way to reach Fornalutx from Soller is the road to the west, which brings you into the top of the village. Trying to drive from the centre of Soller brings you through some narrow congested roads to the bottom of the village. We found this somewhat stressful and is best avoided.

The house is conveniently situated on the main street into the village, close to the village square and amenities. A car is recommended - you off-load your luggage outside the front door onto the street and there is free parking further up the village. Given the location some "village/traffic noise" is to be expected but didn't bother us.

We tried three restaurants in the village, all some 200-300 metres up the main street
Calzone Pizzeria - tasty pizza, good for take away - recommend
Es Turo - helpful cheerful service - traditional food - recommend
Can Nantuna - unhelpful very slow service - traditional food - avoid
Soller provides a range of good restaurants (look for up-to-date reviews on Travel Advisor). We found the fixed price lunch menu and ambience at La Vila in the corner of the main square of Soller superb.

Communication from the owner and support from the representative in the village were excellent. We whole heartedly recommend this property.

Spacious and quiet holiday house

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 04 January 2010 Date of Stay: July 2009
Far bigger than we expected even from the photographs - almost two or three smaller apartments in one - newish terrace and studio with kitchen at the top, very old core house and extended inner courtyard area at the back of the house with loads of original features. Fantastic views from terrace, whole house very clean indeed and very quiet, despite being 50 yards from the village square. Excellent space and spaces - and everything you could possibly need for a holiday. We stayed three weeks.

Returned for 2nd Visit - excellent!

Review Submitted: 21 October 2009 Date of Stay: September 2008
Casa Tim and Gully is a traditional old village house right in the middle of the village so everything is close to hand. It is a "Home from Home" with everything provided - even beach towels! The property is as described and very clean. Our bed was very comfortable and although we didn't try them the others looked just the same! The views from the roof terrace are fantastic and there is a handy little kitchen fully equipped with everything you need just on the floor below. The owner is very friendly and gives very good instructions re arrival etc and in the house is a mine of information and lots of books on Mallorca and other subjects as well. The village is amazing and you can spend hours sitting in the square with a drink or two just people watching! There are lovely walks all around and the town of Soller at the bottom of the mountain is another place to sit and take in the atmosphere. The beach at the Port is only a ten minute drive and the bay is vey pretty with lots of bars and restaurants to try, The village has a few very nice restaurants as well - mainly traditional mallorcan cooking. A place you will want to come back to time and time again!
