Ground floor consists of entrance hall with toilet & washroom, spacious lounge with double sofa bed, dining area &fully equipped kitchen with breakfast bar. Two south facing balconies provide views across the village. An open staircase leads to the first floor bedroom with ensuite toilet and adjacent shower room. Two balconies provide stunning views over the Campo de Gibraltar to the coast & N.Africa beyond. Acess to the roof terrace is through a small casita reached by an open staircase. The terrace has a sun awning and cold shower and is complete with terrace furniture & loungers.

Local amenities: Gaucin has an open air swimming pool surrounded by gardens usually open from June to September. There are two tennis courts with a poolside restaurant. The village has two banks with cash machines, two small supermarkets and several small shops selling all your everyday requirements. There is a small daily market with a fish stall, churros, butcher and greengrocer. There are several restaurants serving varied cuisine and prices to match. The village has ample bars where you can relax with a Rioja, a beer or sample the delicious tapas that are served almost everywhere. All bars serve coffee and soft drinks. During the summer months there are several fiestas commencing with Santa Semana at Easter and finishing with Santo Nino (the local saint) in late August.

Public Transport: Gaucin railway station is situated in the adjoining village of El Colmenar(13kms) distance. From here there are daily trains from Algeciras to Granada. At Bobadilla there are connections for Seville, Malaga & Cordoba as well as services beyond .e.g Madrid.

At the ports of Algeciras and Tarifa(1 hr) there are fast ferries to N.Africa and a day trip to Tangier is quite achievable. There is also a ferry service to N.Africa from Malaga during the summer months.A visit to Gibraltar by train (via Algeciras) would be possible.

An Autobus service runs through Gaucin on a daily basis from Algeciras to Ronda. .

There is a taxi service in the village situated in the plaza.

Whilst you may see many burros in the village these are not usually for hire as transport!!

Tamarind: Tamarind is a 3 storey house set in a tranquil part of this Spanish working village. All of the neighbours are Spanish and their friendliness and warmth just comes naturally. The whole village has a sense of community that extends to visitors also.

There are several walks that start & finish in the village including a visit to the magnificent El Castillo & its museum (a tribute to Santa Nino). The castle is normally floodlit on week ends which makes it even more splendid.Another favourite jaunt is down the Camino de Gibraltar, an old mule track which ends at the Ermita del Santo Nino. Also close by are several forest walks where you may be lucky enough to see some wild pigs. Whichever ramble you choose you will be impressed by the flora and mountain ranges where you may glimpse the soaring eagles and vultures.

Chris & I have just spent a glorious two weeks in your lovely home Tamarind in Gaucin. I can only commend the beautiful condition of your home - everywhere was immaculate. Rosalind Baxter Uxbridge Middlesex

We both had a thoroughly wonderful time, enjoyed the house and Gaucin so much it was a struggle to leave. Even the neighbours came out to say goodbye. Tony & Chris Leeds

Thank you once again for a super place to escape to! We enjoyed being there just as much, if not more than last year. A true escape. Hopefully we will return soon. Gill Twinning, Grimsby

Sheer Bliss

Review Submitted: 14 October 2012 Date of Stay: September 2012
Had the most relaxing week at Tamarind. Fell in love with both Gaucin and this delightfull house.. It had everything we needed but we spent most of our time on the fantastic roof terrace on the comfy sunbeds eating drinking reading and sleeping ,

We had to drag ourselves out a couple of days as the intention had been to visit the pueblos blancos but could have happily spent all the time in Gaucin. The village is great a couple of supermarkets several bars and restaurants and the locals are very friendly.. Tried the village swimming pool which was great its a pity it closes so early in the season it closed on 9th September. There are plenty of places to visit should you feel the need and Ronda is only about 40 mins drive.. Cant wait to go back
Owner's Response: Many thanks for this excellent review. We are so pleased to share our home with like minded people. We are glad you managed to appreciate the friendliness of the local villagers and also managed a few trips to see other villages. We appreciate any comments that are made about the house and we do try to keep improving our stndards.

Holiday home in the mountains

Review Submitted: 11 October 2011 Date of Stay: September 2011
"We had a wonderful week staying at Tamarind, the house is generously proportioned, comfortable, very well equipped, well maintained and private and offers far reaching views to the South from all floors. Gaucin and its surroundings are new to us and we weren’t disappointed. The village, local walking, wildlife and links to surrounding areas were great. We felt the route to Gaucin via Casares was the best if heading up from the coast. We hope to return in the future. Carole & Paul, York."

Lovely Tamarind

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 10 August 2011 Date of Stay: June 2011
Possibly the nicest house we have rented during a 3 month tour of Spain. Tamarind is beautiful inside and incredibly well equipped. Sadly we didn´t have time to read the dozens of books on my wishlist, mainly because we were too busy exploring the area, admiring the view and visiting the local bars and restaurants. We had a fantastic stay and will return one day and recommend to all our friends. Thanks

Owner's Response: Thank you for this wonderful review. I am so happy when people share our home and appreciate the comfort, the wonderful views and surrounding scenery and the hospitality and friendliness of the villagers of Gaucin.
