Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cottage in Gaucin
3 Bedrooms 2 Bathrooms Sleeps 2 to 8

Molino Taponero is a beautiful rural retreat on the River Genal, near Gaucin in the Ronda mountains. It is surrounded by greenery all year round, thanks to the river, which also provides safe swimming and bathing in a series of natural pools. The area is perfect for nature lovers with good walking and abundant wildlife. The pretty white village of Gaucin is only twenty minutes away by road and has a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants. The whole area is one of great scenic beauty with many outstanding places within a short driving distance. The pleasant, not too big, coastal towns of Estepona and Sabinillas are forty minutes drive for those who fancy a dip in the Mediterranean. The Molino is a very special place, part of the building date back to the Moorish occupation of Spain. The gardens shaded by fig, mimosa orange and almond trees, with the sound of the river rippling by, are unbeatable to enjoy the long lazy summer afternoons. Many guests return year after year.

Paul and Dawn are happy to advise on where to visit, from a selection of local restaurants to a scramble to the top of Sierra Crestellina, the Snowdon sized peak overlooking the valley, Paul can on occasion, with a promise of cold beer to follow, be persuaded to act as guide to the top. There are any number of walks to do and beauty spots to visit, by car or on foot within easy striking distance. A walk up the river is one of the most popular with guests. once again, cold beer enthuses Paul to start walking. A good day out can be had in Gibraltar, only an hour away, or even Tangier in Morocco with an early start. Another interesting visit is Ronda, only just over an hour away by a stunningly scenic road thrugh the Sierra. Ronda, with its famous gorge, Arabic and Roman remains, and many other sights is one of Andalucia´s most famous towns. Or you can take the scenic railway, from tiny Colmenar, in the morning, all the way to Ronda and return in the afternoon in time for tea.

Contact: Although mobile phones work at the Molino coverage is still a bit patchy. Paul and Dawn recommend anyone interested in visiting should send an email and they will contact them personally by phone within a short time.

Gaucin and the valley of the Genal river are in the Serrania de Ronda, Andalucia, an outstandingly scenic area of mountains and river valleys. It is an area of white villages, often crowned with Moorish castles To the North, beyond Ronda the peaks give way to rolling countryside while to the South the mountains run almost to the seashore . The main road south from Gaucin reaches Algeciras, where a short ferry ride to Morocco is an easy day trip. From Algeciras the coast road climbs the headland marking the beginning of the Atlantic coast, wide sandy beaches quite different from the Mediterranean. The quickest way to the coast is via Manilva or Casares to Estepona, a pleasant town still with it´s fishing fleet and market. The area is well wooded with cork oaks, mountain pines and eucalyptus. There are any number of scenic walks and drives, some more adventurous than others. Hosts, Paul and Dawn have lived in Andalucia for many years and have a wealth of knowledge about the area.
