2 weeks in Southern Spain

Review Submitted: 09 July 2012 Date of Stay: June 2012
Capistrano Village is beautifully kept and well laid out. We stayed in this property for two weeks and found it to be basic but comfortable and convenient. The veranda at the rear of the property provided welcoming shade as the weather was in the mid to high 90s and the pretty, small back garden boasts its own lemon tree!

The shared swimming pool was an especial delight an easy walk away from our accommodation.

Although about a mile from the town centre of Nerja, the local bus service was reliable and cheap at only one euro each and a pleasant stroll back in the evenings when the temperature cooled down to a mere 75 degrees.

In Nerja itself, the Balcon de Europe is one of the loveliest public spaces we have ever witnessed with ample bars and restaurants for the weary traveller.

Views of the mountains behind Nerja are breathtaking from any angle.

We committed to using only public transport on this holiday and ventured out only to Nerja caves and the magnificent Moorish-influenced village of Frigliana, both of which are well worth a visit. We actually walked to the caves at only 3km distant.

We had a delightful and rejuvenating two weeks.
Owner's Response: Many people going on holiday to our apartment ask the question ' Is it possible to get around without hiring a car?' The above review answers this question. This couple were 'committed to using only public transport on this holiday' and over a period of two weeks moved around Nerja and the area without difficulty. Indeed, they found the local bus service 'reliable and cheap' on their journeys into Nerja while further afield the Alsina Graells Coach took them to 'the magnificent Moorish-influenced village of Frigiliana' which nestles in the breathtaking mountain range which they so admired to the North behind Nerja.

They could if they had wished taken a Coach to the Nerja caves, but preferred to walk the 3kms along the scenic walk away from the town, again looking northwards to the mountains and south to the sea. No doubt, like the 'pleasant strolls' back to the apartment in the cool of the evening, after a visit to the town, these walks provided exhilarating and healthy exercise helping make their holiday 'rejuvenating'.

They found the village of El Capistrano 'beautifully kept and well laid out' and the swimming pool an 'especial delight'. It is well worth a walk around El Capistrano during your stay as there are streets and gardens of exceptional and colourful peace and beauty.

In Nerja they enjoyed the Balcon de Europa which they describe as 'one of the loveliest public spaces we have ever witnessed'. This is high praise indeed, but we can vouch for the beauty of the palm-fringed Balcon with its magnificent views of the coves and beaches, the rocky coastline along the edge of the Mediterannean and behind it all, the 'breathtaking' Almijara mountain range. No one could fail to be moved by a scene of such sublime beauty.

We are pleased that this couple enjoyed their stay and found it 'delightful and rejuvenating'. We would welcome them again at any time.

Got off to a good start when our flight was on time in spite of flying on the day of the Spanish strike.!
The property has lots of charm. For us the really lovely thing was the garden which was beatiful, with a lemon tree, and a wonderful jasmine. There is a good terrace to sit on too, which is sheltered for evening meals al fresco and gets plenty of sun in the day.
Capistrano may be a little far out for some, and its uphill back however you go, but this didnt bother us, and there is a bus but we never used it.
Everything there that you would need, and a good supermarket within esay walking distance.
We usually hire a car, but because of the strike we didn't this time. However we managed very well with the local busses, which were good and cheap. We went as far as Ronda in this way, which was OK, but connections not mega convenient. Malaga and Almunecar were other trips which were direct and provided a good day out.
Site resuarant was OK, we went one night when it rained too much to go to town, but if you like pizza, there is an excellent place called Little Italy in the town which is excellent and very cheap, You sit on long tables which may not suit all, but we had great company on both visits.
Los Arcos, opposite the Capisrano has a nice menu del dia, and if you get a card from reception, there is a free bottle of wine.
Our return taxi to airport was ordered from the town which we were advised was quite a bit cheaper than via the site office (60E v 75).Going we got the bus, which was running a reduced service because of the strike, but would be really easy on 'normal' days
From Malaga, be sure to get the bus for Cuevas de Nerja which stops opposite the site. The bus for 'Nerja' stops in the town only and you have to get a taxi the last bit if you have luggage.
Nerja is a nice town and still retains some "Spanishness" which is good.
All in all we had an excellent time and would go again

Owner's Response: This is a very positive review and we are impressed that, although these visitors arrived on the day of a national strike they managed to get to the apartment on local transport. (The Cuevas de Nerja bus from Malaga Bus Station, as they explain, can bring you very close to the apartment.) We are delighted that, like most visitors, they found the apartment charming, and that they appreciated the sunny terrace and the garden with its colourful flowers and lemon tree. This is laden with fruit all year round, which all our visitors are welcome to use in their gin and tonics, salads, etc. There were still some bunches of grapes on the vine the week before but August and early September are the best months for grapes.

Our visitors give useful information about the local restaurants and hotels where you can have a Menu del Dia or an evening meal. We note that there was just one evening during their fortnight when it was too wet to go into town but this is not bad, considering we are talking about October. Even so, they found that the nearest restaurant on site was 'O.K.' We have had some excellent meals there.

We are pleased that on this occasion our visitors had an excellent time, even without hiring a car, and that they would come again. They would be most welcome.

This apartment is a little gem! Location could not be better for easy access to the main road and public transport to Nerja. No need to hire a car if you don't wish to. The road down to Burriana Beach is also close by so we had the best of all worlds. Climbing back up the hill certainly gets the adrenalin going!
The apartment garden is beautiful and gets the sun from around 10.00 in the morning until sundown. The terrace overlooks this garden and is perfect for enjoying meals and drinks. The large Supersol supermarket is a level 10 minute stroll away and is very well stocked and priced. There is also another smaller supermarket in El Capistrano village itself.
This was our third stay in the area and, hopefully, not our last. We had a most relaxing holiday and would not hesitate to recommend the apartment and area.

Charming Capistrano!

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 07 July 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
We had an absolutely brilliant time staying in Capistrano Village.
Everything went very smoothly for the whole trip.
We arrived in Malaga then took 2 buses to our destination. Very easy to do. We then took a taxi to the agent's office as the bus would not stop at Capistrano -but its only a 20 minute walk anyway. The agent was very helpful and told us about local excursions.
We were delighted with the apartment. It was everything we hoped for.It was spotlessly clean with clean laundry - enough towels for four people not two! The lounge was comfortable with a TV with satellite stations (for the less active holiday-maker!).
We had our breakfast on the terrace daily, and even had a couple of barbecue's in the evenings at home with a bottle of wine (it was a nice surprise to find a working barbecue there!).
The village is lovely and a break away from the beach -we found the pool very relaxing and went there every evening before dinner.
Capistrano village is a 15 minute walk downhill to Burriana beach -it obviuosly takes longer walking up! This did not bother us at all but we are both very active. For those of you who don't like walking there are buses and taxi's. To be honest, its so relaxing there and the evenings are so lovely and warm that I didn't care how long it took to walk and we just took our time.
Burriana is a lovely beach and we took advantage of all its activites -we went snorkelling, on a jet ski, banana boat and also hired canoes for a day! We also explored other beaches around the Balcon de Europe -all lovely with great snorkelling but not as nice as Burriana.
The shopping in Nerja is good for touristy things and there is a lively buzz in the evenings. We only ate there one night and were disappointed with the offer of an English menu everywhere we went. Every other night we stuck to the restaurants on the beach in Burriana -all offer great Spanish food and the local tradition of grilled fish.
We attended a Flamenco show at the Hotel flamenca near Nerja which also had a great buffet. The show was quite modern -no traditional dress -but the food was superb.
Nerja caves is a big local attraction. Again we walked there -20 minute -but worth it. Buses go too.
The highlight of our trip was the San Juan festival -we joined the locals by taking a dip in the sea at midnight! What a night to remember!

All in all we had a fabulous trip . Without this lovely apartment we would have ended up in one of the big hotels in the town.
