holiday in nerja, october 2010

Got off to a good start when our flight was on time in spite of flying on the day of the Spanish strike.!
The property has lots of charm. For us the really lovely thing was the garden which was beatiful, with a lemon tree, and a wonderful jasmine. There is a good terrace to sit on too, which is sheltered for evening meals al fresco and gets plenty of sun in the day.
Capistrano may be a little far out for some, and its uphill back however you go, but this didnt bother us, and there is a bus but we never used it.
Everything there that you would need, and a good supermarket within esay walking distance.
We usually hire a car, but because of the strike we didn't this time. However we managed very well with the local busses, which were good and cheap. We went as far as Ronda in this way, which was OK, but connections not mega convenient. Malaga and Almunecar were other trips which were direct and provided a good day out.
Site resuarant was OK, we went one night when it rained too much to go to town, but if you like pizza, there is an excellent place called Little Italy in the town which is excellent and very cheap, You sit on long tables which may not suit all, but we had great company on both visits.
Los Arcos, opposite the Capisrano has a nice menu del dia, and if you get a card from reception, there is a free bottle of wine.
Our return taxi to airport was ordered from the town which we were advised was quite a bit cheaper than via the site office (60E v 75).Going we got the bus, which was running a reduced service because of the strike, but would be really easy on 'normal' days
From Malaga, be sure to get the bus for Cuevas de Nerja which stops opposite the site. The bus for 'Nerja' stops in the town only and you have to get a taxi the last bit if you have luggage.
Nerja is a nice town and still retains some "Spanishness" which is good.
All in all we had an excellent time and would go again

Owner's Response: This is a very positive review and we are impressed that, although these visitors arrived on the day of a national strike they managed to get to the apartment on local transport. (The Cuevas de Nerja bus from Malaga Bus Station, as they explain, can bring you very close to the apartment.) We are delighted that, like most visitors, they found the apartment charming, and that they appreciated the sunny terrace and the garden with its colourful flowers and lemon tree. This is laden with fruit all year round, which all our visitors are welcome to use in their gin and tonics, salads, etc. There were still some bunches of grapes on the vine the week before but August and early September are the best months for grapes.
Our visitors give useful information about the local restaurants and hotels where you can have a Menu del Dia or an evening meal. We note that there was just one evening during their fortnight when it was too wet to go into town but this is not bad, considering we are talking about October. Even so, they found that the nearest restaurant on site was 'O.K.' We have had some excellent meals there.
We are pleased that on this occasion our visitors had an excellent time, even without hiring a car, and that they would come again. They would be most welcome.
