Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday villa in Salobrena - Casa Piedra
4 Bedrooms, 3 bath/shower rooms, sleeps 8 plus baby. NEW: pool heating for 2013

Casa Piedra is the only house in the old town with its own swimming pool. Pool heating is now offered from Easter 2013 at a small supplementary charge. It is a unique architect designed property, built in the late 1960's and located high in the old town of Salobreña. There is nothing to compare - ALL other similar properties are located out of town - a car drive away from all the many amenities which Salobreña has to offer. Although there are houses all around, Casa Piedra is very spacious and private, set in its own hillside garden with a large tear drop swimming pool, avocado and palm trees, several terraces and abundant tropical shrubs and plants. The views are spectacular. In one direction you see Las Alpujarras (foothills of the Sierra Nevada) and in the other you look down to the shimmering waters of the Med and Salobreña beach. It will take you 12 minutes to walk down to the beach - much less to local bars and restaurants in the old town.

Ground Floor: Front door leads to lobby with marble staircase leading to first floor, landing and sun terrace.

Lounge: Spacious room with two large sofas; book-cases; very efficient wood burning stove for out of season. Door leads out to side terrace and swimming pool. Steps up to open plan dining room.

Dining Room and Terrace: Indoor dining area; door out to terrace with large marble dining table which is main dining area. Overlooks swimming pool and views out to beach and sea.

Kitchen: Fully equipped including 2 refrigerators and freezer. Leads to:

Shower room and toilet;

and Bedroom 4 with standard double bed, wardrobe, and window to passage-way. (This bedroom and shower room becomes en suite and is its own enclosed area.)

Back door to passage-way.

First Floor: Bedroom 1: 5' double bed; fitted wardrobe and drawers. Views over swimming pool, barbecue terrace and the sea. Steps down to en-suite bath/shower room/toilet all recently refurbished.

Bedroom 2: Very large room with super king size bed; spacious mirrored wardrobes with shelves and drawers. Sofa bed. TV. Views to sea. Across passage-way to recently refurbished large shower room/toilet.

Bedroom 3: Twin beds. Fitted wardrobe and drawers. Views over sun terrace. (Shares bathroom with bedroom 2.)

Sun Terrace: Dining area and built in tiled bench seats in Andalusian style. Wrought iron work with flowering creepers. Views to mountains in one direction and beach in the other direction.

(NB Bedroom 4 is downstairs.)

The Swimming Pool and Garden: The swimming pool is being heated from Easter 2013. It has a maximum dimension of approx 9 metres and is approached down a small flight of steps. The depth ranges from approx 4'9' to 5'9' - there is no shallow end although the steps down allow the possibility of a gentle immersion if required. Gates, as a deterrent for small children, are installed around the house in strategic locations to fence off the swimming pool and open spaces. (Please enquire regarding charges for swimming pool heating.)

The house has six terrace areas with masses of pot plants. At the front door there is a cool shady terrace which looks out to the mountains and valley towards Motril. Above the garage there is a terrace for table tennis or sun bathing. Outside the lounge there is a pretty sun terrace. Below the swimming pool there is a shady terrace for barbecues and from which there are views to the town and out to sea. There is a double hammock on this terrace for siestas. The dining terrace and upstairs sun terrace are described above.

Welcome to the Costa Tropical! Salobreña is on the coast about 1 hour east of Malaga airport and just 45 minutes south of Granada. This is the real Spain with no high rise development and no glitzy night life - just restaurants, tapas bars, 4kms of beaches, perhaps the odd disco and very friendly local people. The old town of Salobreña, once a Moorish stronghold was built on an imposing outcrop of rock visible from miles around; perched on the top of the hill and dominating the town from 105 metres above sea level are the 10th century castle and 16th century church. This is the 'casco antiguo', a maze of narrow roadways, white-washed houses, alleys and steep staircases. Here, all a stone's throw from Casa Piedra, you will discover the old town square with its hidden tapas bars, wonderful restaurants and a few quaint shops locked in their own time warp.

The place you must stay at in Salobrena!

An amazing place - the website doesn't do it justice - nor does it tell you that its like being an invited guest in someone's home. Lovely touches, and real comforts - spacious enough for a large party without feeling at all crowded, but intimately cosy for a couple on their own - as we found toward the end of our stay after the rest of our party had reluctantly returned to their jobs and studies..
We had one day at the Alhambra, and one day's trip into the hills for markets and rugs - spectacular scenery - but you really don't need to go anywhere as Casa Piedra has it all! Just a trip down to the fish market for bbq provisions, or a gentle stroll up the hill to the bars or restaurants in the delightful old town in an evening to round off each perfect day.
We enjoyed a truly restorative 3 weeks and were sorry to leave. In 40 years of family holidays its one of the very few places we look forward to going back to. Highly recommended.

Absolutely perfect!

My husband and I just returned from our trip to Europe and I wanted to send you a quick message to say Thank You for sharing Casa Piedra with us. Our entire group was amazed at how beautiful Salobrena is and how perfect the house was for our little group. The pool was used and appreciated daily and the view from the house was nothing short of spectacular. We loved every minute of our stay and the beauty of the place more than made up for all the hassels my husband and I endured at the beginning of our trip. We will be going back to Spain no question! What a wonderful way to celebrate graduation from Nursing school and my birthday. Each and every one of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Spain and we were very reluctant to leave the beauty of Salobrena and Casa Piedra. I suspect you'll be hearing from at least a few of us again for our next trip to this part of Spain.

Beautiful villa in the enchanting Old Town

We had our third enjoyable stay at this lovely villa.Says it all!! The pool can be gated to protect young children and the various patio areas provide the required shade or sun (or escape!) as required. We returned to Martin Restaurant by the castle and were pleased to meet Pepe (Senior & the younger) again and of course, the delightful Antonio at the Restaurant Pesetas. We enjoyed meals and drinks in both, which are situated a short walk uphill from the villa in the attractive Old Town.
We visited Emilios Restaurant on the beach where food portions were enormous but our favourite eating place remained the Bahia Beach Restaurant for food and location, which also suited the grandchildren.
There are steps from very near the villa which take you down to beach level which we used in preference to car this time. Phew! Helps the fitness but required an occasional pause for the grandparents on the upward climb!
Owner and agents were extremely helpful and we wouldnt hesitate to recommend this villa to anyone wanting a wonderful holiday.
Owner's Response: Excellent!

On your next holiday - the fourth! - make sure you get to Bar Alhaja in the old town which is the most atmospheric in Salobeña with great music. And after Martin's Bar in the old town where you mention the Pepes, you will find Restaurant Traviesa, with one of the best and most original menus. (On Thursdays through this summer - 2012 - they have a local group playing live flamenco music and we really enjoyed that.)

These restaurants and bars referred to, are on the same level in the town so there is no walking up and down the hill. Everything featured in this review is within a 5 - 15 minute walk from the viilla. No other villa with pool in Salobeña is so close to the action!

Lovely Salobrena home

We just returned from our fantastic vacation at Casa Piedra. The stay was truly memorable. We know we had found the perfect place when we followed Geoffrey's excellent directions through the narrow winding roads of Salobrena to his hillside home.
Unfortunately it was too cold to use the inviting pool but we were very satisfied sitting out on the many balconies in the warm sun where we could look out over the town and the blue waters of the Mediterranean.
The house was quite comfortable for all 7 members of our group. Evenings were spent with our own version of tapas or out in the many excellent restaurants that are found in Salobrena. The town was fun to explore and walks on the beach were very relaxing.
Salobrena has a great location with access to many points of interest: Nerja, Ronda, Gibralter, Granada. The house was well stocked with guidebooks to direct you to the local attractions.
We would highly recommend Casa Piedra for anybody that would like a relaxing vacation in the ideal house.

Fab villa in a fab location

Just returned from a thoroughly relaxing & enjoyable two week break; such a lovely villa, in fact it’s probably one of the nicest villas, and certainly one of the nicest resorts, we’ve ever stayed in! Central location, but quiet, with fantastic views. Particularly impressed by the local bars (there are 4 just a short walk up the hill towards the castle) all of which serve different tapas with every drink! There are a variety of different restaurants in and around the town and down on the beach (some actually bbq the food on the beach, which the kids loved to watch) - all very Spanish, not a Pizza Hut or MacDonalds in sight!!
The lovely warm villa pool (set in the most ingeniously designed and beautiful garden) was so welcoming after a hearty trek back from the town up the vast amount of stairs - you may want to take this into consideration if you have mobility problems, or just use the car. We however, didn’t mind after eating so much Tapas!
Just one thing I would say you ought to bear in mind is that the roads are VERY narrow – probably best that you don’t take a mini van (or similar). We had two small cars (for 2 families) which we managed to park quite easily (one in the garage and one outside the garage).
Finally, a big thank you to the management team (Christine & Julie who care for the villa and helped us find it!) and of course to the owners who couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful.
Would we visit again?...yes, absolutely!!
Recommended for:  Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway
Owner's Response: Yet another satisfied customer!

We agree that it is better to have smaller cars if possible. But in spite of the road up through the old town which is narrow and steep in places, we do have a little bus that makes it - it's not impossible to have a larger vehicle especially outside the main high season weeks when it is less busy.
