Well maintained detached villa located on a sought-after urbanisation in a quiet cul-de-sac. Set within its own walled gardens and sunny terrace, Casa Leon enjoys the benefits of a lovely communal swimming pool with poolside shower, surrounded by mature gardens.

A 10 minute walk will lead you to the beautiful hamlet of El Portet, one of the best little bays on the Costa Blanca, with its panoramic sandy bay and beachside snack/drinks bars. There is a small supermarket, chemist and further restaurants close by. Moraira town is located 1km (approx. 20 minute walk), the route from the villa to town boasts breathtaking views.

Casa Leon comprises one double and two twin bedrooms, lounge, dining area, kitchen and bathroom. Bedrooms benefit from window mosquito blinds and the villa is air conditioned. Please note that one of the twin bedded rooms has an en-suite shower room and is situated independent to the rest of the villa on the ground floor. The room has its own entrance and is not connected internally in anyway, therefore the room is not suitable for younger children sleeping without an adult.

About Moraira: Once a sleepy fishing village, Moraira has grown into a small yet charming and picturesque town and yet due to strict planning laws is still very pretty and not over-developed. The main hub of life is beside the pretty yacht marina offering a good selection of restaurants and bars where you can sit outside and watch the world go by. A charming square still retains much of the original character and atmosphere and is home to the local church. There are restaurants, bars and several interesting shops lining the narrow cobbled streets. In the high season, the town comes alive in the evenings with locals and visitors alike.

There is a Friday morning market which is a must to visit and is very popular for its excellent fruit & veg. Also in Moraira is a children's fun fair, crazy golf and a go-karting track which is about a 10 minute drive out from Moraira and an interesting nightly street market.

The beach: The beautiful hamlet of El Portet is only a 10 minute walk away from the villa. It offers a safe, sandy beach, beachside cafe and beautiful views. There is also parking should you wish to take the car.

A further 10 minutes brings you to the town of Moraira which also has its own popular wide, gently-shelving sandy beach with shallow waters. The walk from El Portet to Moraira is breathtaking taking in stunning, elevated views across El Portet bay, Moraira's pretty marina and across to Calpe's Ifach Rock in the distance.

Both beaches were awarded the prestigious EEC Blue Flags for cleanliness and are safe for family bathing, both are also served by beach bars and restaurants which serve drinks, snacks and main meals. It is also well worth exploring the many other coves and bays along the coast with sand or sand/rock beaches.

The area: Moraira is situated at the end of a long valley. The surrounding pine-clad foothills provide both shelter from the winter weather from the north and a natural vortex for cooling summer sea breezes. Moraira’s perfect orientation provides the majority of its properties with a southerly downhill view towards the sea. The development in the area is mostly detached privately-owned villas with very few holiday apartments and no holiday package hotels whatsoever and therefore accommodation is virtually limited to privately-owned villas. Nearly all the properties are owned by Northern Europeans either as retirement or holiday homes and are spread over quite a substantial area. The well-spaced villa development does mean that a car is a necessity in most areas, although this villa is a 20 minute walk into Moraira town.

Moraira is situated in the North of the Alicante province on the Costa Blanca - the East coast of Spain. Approx 1 hours drive from Alicante airport and a further 20 minutes to Valencia airport. The development in the area is mostly privately-owned villas with no holiday package hotels whatsoever. Nearly all the properties are owned by Northern Europeans either as retirement or holiday homes and are spread over quite a substantial area. Not far inland the area is dominated by rugged mountains, cut by deep valleys and fertile plains which provide an impressive backdrop to the coastal landscape. Benidorm is around a 30 minute drive away where you will find great activities for the children, including Aqualandia Water Park, Terramitica (Spain's answer to Disneyland) and Mundomar (sea world).

Golf: There are upwards of 12 golf courses on the Costa Blanca and 4 within easy reach of Moraira. All are affiliated to the Spanish Federation and consequently can validate member’s handicap internationally. All have golf clubs for hire and most, if not all can provide coaching. CLUB DE GOLF ‘IFACH’ No of Holes: 9 Par: 60. The Club de Golf Ifach course is situated on the coast road between Moraira and Calpe on the San Jaime Urbanisation in Benissa, hence surrounding views of the most prestigious properties in the area, set in a beautiful fertile valley with distant scenes of Calpe’s D’Ifach rock and sparkling blue Mediterranean Sea. CLUB DE GOLF JAVEA No of Holes: 9 Par: 72. Situated between Moraira and Javea, this all year course is slightly longer and quite flat, easier to play and not so tiring in the hot summer sun. It has been attractively landscaped around the greens and also benefits from a putting green, driving range, club bar and restaurant, heated swimming pool, tennis and squash courts. CLUB DE GOLF LA SELLA - No of Holes: 18, Par: 72. On the back-road between Javea and Denia, situated inland near the area of Jesus Pobre, this course was opened in 1991 and designed to use ‘all the clubs in the bag’. Although almost totally flat it has many trees and water obstacles (canals and lakes which provide the irrigation).

Staying at Casa Leon

An excellent location for a relaxing (wind-down) holiday. The directions provided from the airport were so easy to follow. We found the villa in perfect condition - very clean. The villa was equiped with absolutely everything that we needed, in fact more than any self-catering accommodation that we've used before; it was equiped more like a home!

The communal pool was very clean but note it is not ideal for lounging around - it is more for swimming only - but not a problem as the villa and its loungers are only a short walk away. The beach, which is really nice and clean, is an easy walk, as is the local town of Moraira, which has enough restaurants to try for months, yet alone a week!

We really loved the area - everyone was very friendly, it was clean, well maintained and very cosmopolitan; so much so, we would love to move there! Would thoroughly recommend this villa to friends who need a relaxing holiday.

Overall we had a very enjoyable stay at Casa Leon (our second in the past 2 years).

The agent from Lemon Tree Villas (Hazel) was helpful and efficient from the moment we booked, right through to the return of our security deposit when the holiday was over. She made the whole proces a memorably and enjoyable experience.

The villa is perfectly situated for our needs, allowing us to walk everywhere we needed to i.e. El Portet Beach (15 mins), Moraira Town (40 mins), Moraira Beach (45 mins) or even further to the Olive Tree Restaurant (circa 50 mins), which incidentally we would recommend highly. And the communal pool was a godsend.

Not everything at the villa was perfect however, i.e. much the same as we noted in the review we provided last year, some of the outside accessories are very tired e.g. the sunbed covers, all outside chair covers have reached the point where they look terrible and some were not even usable this time (they were so dirty/mouldy or flattened that that had been stowed out of site in the utility room). The rotary line that was unusable last year was again unusable this year (i.e. washing would end up on the floor within 10 minutes of being hung out). And finally, we feel certain that the inside of the house was much cleaner when we left than it was when we arrived.

We shall return to Moraira next year, same complex, but probably not Casa Leon (at least not until some sprucing up becomes evident).
Owner's Response: I am very pleased you had another enjoyable stay at Casa Leon, however as the agent for this villa I was very disappointed to learn that this usually well maintained villa was not quite up to the standard it usually keeps and a standard that our guests would expect in a private villa rental. Lemon Tree Villas took the necessary action and Casa Leon was made temporarily unavailable for booking whilst the owner dealt with the issues and brought this popular holiday home back to the high standard it deserves.

Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention and we would very much like to welcome you to Casa Leon again next year.

Great holiday

We had a wonderful time at the villa, which was ideally located just 10 minutes walk from the Beach and about 20-30 minutes from downtown Moraira. Inside was clean and tidy (but did not really get used much because weather was so good). Outside Chairs and covers were a little bit tired, but the gas barbecue was a real bonus. Communal pool was mostly quiet and large enough to swim in properly (just). Great little bar (and Supermercado) just 7 minutes walk away. We look forward to returning in the future.

Lovely villa

We enjoyed a lovely two week holiday in this villa. Peaceful location, ideal in that it was walk-able to both Moraira town centre and El Portet. Accommodation spacious, clean and comfortable. The property is on a very steep hill, which some might find challenging.

Would recommend as a great place to stay in Moraira.

We have just spent our second stay in Casa Leon. The villa is so well presented and equipped. The location is close to the very safe and clean beach and within wlaking distance, or a short drive to Moraira. It makes an ideal place for a very relaxing family holiday. We would willingly recommend the villa.
