The centre of the Elche region, the town of Elche, is 23km from Alicante on Spain’s Costa Blanca. Covered in palm groves, the area has an extremely exotic feel. There are some beautiful beaches in Elche, which have helped the region gain a reputation as a magnificent beach destination away from the tourist hoards which flock to many of the better known destinations of the Costa Blanca.
The Palmerar d’Elx, or Elche Palm Grove, was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and is one of the nicest places to enjoy the sun and shade of the region. However, no Elche holiday would be complete without a visit to the Elche Safari Park, Rio Safari, which is a great compromise between a zoo, community farm and safari park. It is well connected to the area, so there should be no trouble finding it from an Elche holiday rental villa. There are sea lion, elephant and parrot displays, and a train which circumnavigates the park and really gets in amongst the tigers, lions, jaguars, giraffes, hippo, elephants, monkeys and crocodiles.
Much of your time in an Elche villa will be centred on the glorious sand beaches which dot the coastline. There are numerous water sports available from the beaches of Elche too.
Balloon flights across the countryside are a beautiful way to discover the area surrounding your self catering Elche accommodation, lasting around 40 minutes.
The Costa Blanca is renowned for its golf courses, and taking a villa in Elche will not disappoint. There are numerous golf courses in the region, not only offering challenging sport, but excellent scenery too.
Santa Pola lies on a calm bay just a few miles from the airport, which is definitely worth visiting from a holiday rental in Elche. The stunning Roman mosaics which can be found in the town’s park are defiantly worth the trip, and the impressive fort which dominates the town centre makes this a great place to stay. With six beaches and a sports marina, offering internationally renowned fishing and sailing facilities, and numerous diving schools, it is one of the best places to stay for a beach holiday in Elche.
Year round, Elche has a beautifully warm climate. Summer averages reach over 30°C, with daily peaks regularly reaching into the high 30’s and low 40’s. Winter temperatures average almost 20°C, making it a perfect destination to escape the British winter.
The region of Elche is remarkably close to Alicante Airport (ALC), which is just a few miles away. There are an enormous number of flights from across the UK and there are so many providers jostling for business that there should be no trouble finding a cheap flight to Elche.
